I'm deciding between the two but i don't know if i'd be willing to spend the money on a 9330 (my contract isn't up yet). Should i cheap out and get a 8530 on ebay or would a 9330 be worth it?

Your contract may not be up but you may still get a good deal from Verizon. Check and you can get a refurb 9650 for like $50.00. This unit is better than the other two you are thinking about, if anything at least look into it.
If you are open to looking on ebay, I agree with JimiMack you should consider referb 9650, being as you are new to Blackberry you haven't found a keyboard to fall inlove with. So you might as well try the more powerful Bold line over the curve line.

The 9330 from Verizon has 512 RAM and 512 Flash Storage.
The only thing different on the Bold is that is has a better Camera (more MP) + Flash, higher screen resolution, and a better keyboard. Perhaps it has a bigger battery as well.
But from a spec point of view, the Curve is almost as good.
If you have bigger hands the Curve keyboard is better than the bold keyboard, which is as cramped as the Nokia eSeries and Samsung Jack keyboards (unusable for me, and I have very small hands - I dunno how people do it).
Also, I don't trust refurbs - personally, unless I'm picking it up myself from the Warranty center and have a chance to deny a crappy looking/functioning unit on the spot.
I'd go used personally. Refurb 9650, used 9330, or even a used 8530. You could really get a great deal on an 8530 that route and save the upgrade since you don't have a full one yet.

It seems like a no-brainer to get the 9330, but I just swithced from the 8530 to the 9330 and had to give up BlackBerry Traffic (a cool RIM app that doesnt run on the 9330).
The GPS location feature doesn't work as well with Facebook Places on the Facebook App and the Beta Twitter App. It seems like those two apps only access Tower Triangulation on the 9330. On the 8530 they were able to reach the GPS and get very accurate location readings.
Also, be aware that BlackBerry 6 doesn't seem to be as snappy on the 9330 as BlackBerry 5 is on the 8530.
