    Hello,
I ordered 2 cases from crackberry store and today I received an email that says I need to send two of the followings:

    - Top portion of the most recent credit card billing statement showing, name, billing address and last four numbers of the credit card
    - Photo copy of your driver license
    - Photo copy of the front and back of the credit card before the order can be filled (optionally block out all numbers except first and last four)

I do online shopping time to time but never had to do such a thing.
Do you think the email I received is real? Why do they require these requirements?

Did you pay for these cases already via a credit card? Either way that sounds like way too much personal stuff they want there so I would treat it as highly suspicious and not give any of that out.

It's to make sure that you are actually you ordering.. it makes sense, a lot of security but it's good right! Showing/ emailing them that info isn't going to give them nothing they already don't have! You ordered two case to your house right so they have that, and they already have your credit card info, so taking a pic of ur credit card bill top half showing ur name and address and the last 4 numbers on your card won't compromise you at all and it shows crackberry store that you are the one making the purchase

Why do I have to do this in CB store and not other places? This is really the first time I am asked such a request. Do you think this is a common request when you shop online.

I haven't had it done, but I've heard of other sites/ stores having a disclaimer saying that they would/could do the same thing if they thought that bit wasn't you ordering or stuff like that, if the email looks legit I would do it. Like I said they aren't getting any information that you already wouldn't have given them, or call the Toll Free number and talk to a rep they would help you too

I never had to give that info to the Crackberry store. I would email them back using the customer service page off the website and ask them why they needed it and was it them that sent the email.

Do,,, not,,, give,,, that,,, info!!! aside from sounding veeerrryyy shakey, i think someone needs to look into whether CB has been breached & you need to run a security check on your machine,,, my 1st question is, if this is bogus, & it sounds very much so, would be how they knew of your purchase,,, there's only 2 ways,,, like i said, either cb or you have been compromised,,, & i wouldn't have your pin public either,,, that's another nightmare entirely...

so you're saying that by making a purchase on cb, they already have your license #, statements & photocopies ??? if you're that free w/ your info fine,,, but this stinks if you ask me,,, legit or not, they don't need that info...

@mozkaynak Something about your order tripped a system that's there to protect everybody. 99% of the time its right on; sometimes, as is the case with you, it generates a false positive.

This is not really any different to being asked to supply a drivers license when you make a purchase in the regular store except it's more hassle so obviously we don't ask everyone all the time. I suggest you call customer service in the am and ask them why and maybe they can help you out: ( 866) 904-5772

I'm sorry it happened to you and it's a shame.

As always with emails that ask you for things always contact the company using independently verifiable contact information (I pulled the number above from our site but check for yourself too).

    Regards

    Steph

Thanks. I guess the reason why my order tripped was that my shipping address and billing adresses are different. Anyway, I call the number tomorrow and resolve the issue.

See there was no reason to get excited in the first place. But you already knew as much and decided to post your rant to stir up the trolls lurking under every BlackBerry Bridge.

I was right "to get excited." How many times did you email the picture of your ID cards/credit cards? I have asked a few people around me and they would never do such a thing. The request was totally absurd!

You already stated "I guess the reason why my order tripped was that my shipping address and billing adresses are different". Therefore, you knew, maybe not immediately at the moment the email arrived, the reason for their request at the outset.

All they wanted was something with your name and address on it plus the last four digits of ur credit card.. Really not a big deal, do you want a pic of my id? The info on it doesn't give anything away at all, my address and name lol big deal, I'd love some of crackberry people to come visit me and maybe cook as I'm a single dad and in the military so I don't get good home cook food, any offers lol

I just called crackberry and told them that is there any way to resolve the issues without emailing them the pic of my ID and credit card. He said no. I had to do that. I told him that is it ok if I change my shipping address to my billing address? He says no. I had to sent them the pics. I asked him whether he has ever sent his ID and credit card pic to any online vendor? He said no, but they still require me to do so. I had to cancel my order. This is really frustrating because I had order out of stock product and waited weeks to get that. I guess crackberry does not need my business.
@habs_fan if you still think crackberry's request was reasonable, could you please send me the pic of your ID and credit card to me? my email address is [email protected]
    Thanks for your concerns.

in fairness (and im in the uk so can only speak as we have things here) there is normally a `deliver to payment address` and `deliver to another address` option when you purchase something.

also, if anyone ever asked for a copy of my license details, well lets jus say id never use that company again. ever.

as it stands, in the UK, 2 of those 3 items would be enough to set up a bank account and take out a loan, and that's why I agree with the OP that its totally unreasonable

@everybody it's ok if if he came here for help that partly what we're here for. I don't think it's an everyday occurrence and it could have been phishing.

@moz the reason we ask for both the last and first 4 is that, as you may have noticed a lot of credit card statements only list the last (or first) 4 digits, thus someone going through your mail might have one of those sets but not both.

You would be very surprised the kind of fraud attempts we see.

Anyway thanks for bearing with us.

@BBTheme we have that too of course but he nevertheless tripped the system.

I'm from the UK, you need a passport to set up a bank account. Dabs direct consistently asked for additional information when I made orders where the delivery address didn't match the card address. Closest I can think of is to try making an order from John Lewis and having the products sent to France or Spain... It's simply different here in the US.

as it stands, in the UK, 2 of those 3 items...
That why we ask for 2...and why everyone else does too.

Here many many stores by default ask for your drivers license when using a credit card the reason is that credit card fraud often goes unpunished . If I acquire a card I can go to a different state or even the same state have a great time before the card gets blocked and no-one is really going to catch up with me, they're just going to block the card (it's huge country of course and in 3 hours I can be 4-5 jurisdictions away). There isn't going to be a specialist group of police checking street cameras and store cameras then using fancy software to track my movements on the grid; the systems aren't setup that way and certainly not as connected as the media try to make out.

im sorry, that's wholly and utterly incorrect. for example NatWest will let you set up an account with your drivers license instead of a passport.

validate your answers by all means, but when you outright lie, you lose peoples respect.

I guess 'It's simply different here in the UK'. oh, did that sound condescending too? pfft
