    Is there any way to load a PRL (preferred roaming list) file from a PC onto a Blackberry? I used to have a Motorola phone and it had PST and RSS Carrier to do these types of things. Is there an equivalent program for Blackberries?

    Okay. I found that there is a program for the Blackberry. In fact, Bitpim works with the Blackberry, as does QPST (and many others).

    I figured out how to load a PRL from the computer. In case anyone else wants to do it, here are the instructions.....

    Ok this has taken me about 8 hours to figure this out, but I now know it is possible. The reason I wanted to load a PRL manually was because my carrier (Alltel) has a PRL (40023 as of this writing) which allows EVDO roaming on Sprint. Only problem is right now Alltel is not pushing 40023 but a non-roaming PRL via *228. These instructions also detail how to get Bitpim or QPST to work with your Blackberry. Note that since the Blackberry's NVM is locked, QPST cannot be used to upload/download a PRL. You must use Infosoft Universal PST to change the PRL. More on that later.

    Tested on: Blackberry 8830

    1. Uninstall Blackberry Desktop Manager and Blackberry Device Manager, if they are installed. The reason for this is non of the software can read the Blackberry when the Blackberry software is installed.

    2. Install Sprint Mobile Broadband software. From the Sprint site, look for "Sprint PCS Connection Manager for Phone as Modem/USB Cables". As of this writing, it is available at:
    http: //www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/downloads/Sprint_PCS_CM_v040.msi

    3. Download (purchase) Infosoft Universal PST. I cant link to this, so you're on your own. Hint: Google "Infosoft Universal PST here" and read that thread carefully. You have to reboot a few times to get it to work.

    4. Reboot after installing Infosoft.

    5. Download the RIM DLLs for Infosoft. Hint: Google "RIM_7250c" and copy DLL into C:\Program Files\InfoSOFT\Universal PST\Plugins
    Note: although it says 7250, it worked on my 8830, so I suspect this dll will work with any recent Blackberry.

    6. Load "Sprint Mobile Broadband" client. This is map your Blackberry to a COM port. (Mine was COM5). Any program should be able to access your Blackberry at this point. (QPST, Bitpim, etc.). Just tell the program the correct COM port.

    7. Open Infosoft Universal PST and click Edit->Options. Enter the COM port of your Blackberry. (in my case, COM5). Then click the USB/UART tab and select "UART". Click OK.

    8. Click Device->Connect

    9. Click Manufacturer->Research in Motion->RIM_7250c->PRL

    10. Click Browse to find your .PRL file (say, one you downloaded from corolada.com)

    11. Click Start to write the PRL to the phone.

    gueido, thanks for the great detailed description!
    before i attempt it, has anyone come up w/ an easier method for this prl change yet? it would be great to roam on sprint's network like i could when trying out htc8600.
    still not sure why alltel has sprint roaming prl for treos and not other phones.
    also, where is the existing prl info located on a bb?
    thanks!

    Has anyone confirmed this process. I am having two issues with the process which i desperately need to solve. First and foremost, i have installed the newest version of the sprint connection manager yet when i plug my blackberry 8130 in the phone never comes up. when i go to device info and diagnostics it says no wireless modems available.
    The second problem i am having is that i cannot seem to find that blackberry DLL for infosofe Universal PST.
    any and all help would be appreciated.
