- Hello everyone.
I m planning to upgrade from my BB8520 and nokia N97mini and have corner two models: 9810 and 9900.
9900: I personally like candybar phones but Unfortunately when I had an handon expi of 9900 I was very disappointed. Built quality is crap.
9810: felt this mobile for the first time this morning. Ws very impressive. Slider is very smooth and isn't too loose or tight.
M very confused. Pls suggest which one I should go for.
PS: consider me neutral.02-27-12 03:55 AMLike 0 - I am very surprised you found the 9900 to have poor build quality. In my opinion, it exceeds the 9810.
If you need browsing over messaging, then I'd go for the 9810. However, if you are going to be typing more than browsing the web, then go for the 9900.sleepngbear likes this.02-27-12 05:33 AMLike 1 - I have the 9810 and love it. I have read a lot of complaints about the battery life with the 9900 - I can tell you I get 2 days and a little more from my 9810 with moderate use. I like the bigger screen as well. The 9810 keyboard is a little cramped compared to the 9900, but I found myself used to it very quickly.02-27-12 08:40 AMLike 0

Can't really gage build quality by demo models ... they usually get abused pretty bad.
I have a 9810 (in a box) and a 9900 that I'm currently using. Build quality on both is great. Nothing at all wrong with the 9810, but I find the keyboard on the 9900 to be infinitely better. I prefer the 9900 for exactly the reasons NicoBerry suggested. But there are some people who prefer the slider. Figure out what you think you'll be doing most, then if you can, go try them both and see which one feels better for what you'll be doing with it.02-27-12 08:50 AMLike 0 - People want to make out that the keyboard on the 9900 is far superior to anything else. May be but I have zero problems using my 9810 keyboard. As previous poster said, try both and choose whichever best suits your needs.02-27-12 08:53 AMLike 0
- How will you use the phone.
If MORE than 50% of your time is spent texting, writing emails, etc. the 9900 is probably the phone you want.
The 9810 is a 50/50 phone. I think it's a better media device (Ex. music, camera,videos)
The 9900 has NFC. The 9810 doesn't
The 9810 has a better camera for close-up shots02-27-12 09:13 AMLike 0 - I'm not keen on the sliding mechanism though, since i use my phone so so much.
By sliding it whole the time in and out, i'm not sure about that, well i have bad experiences.
With old sliders phones though (Not BlackBerry).
But the 9810 looks quite sexy, but the 9900 is much more convient for me.
Like the majority has inputted their pro's and con's. It's also your own decision to make.02-27-12 09:24 AMLike 0 - Hello everyone.

You can't go wrong either way, as someone who has used both form factors extensively, I prefer the 9900, but build quality issues have been seen from device to device, my Black Bold 9900 had a better build quality than my white Bold 9900, the trackpad has more squeak on my White one. and the pad is recessed more.
I think you need to pick up both again and look at both.
the Keyboard on the 9900 is better, but the camera on the 9810 is better,
the battery life on the 9810 is better as well, but the 9900 is lighter and better balanced.sleepngbear likes this.02-27-12 09:27 AMLike 1 - I have a 9810 (in a box) and a 9900 that I'm currently using. Another negative of the 9810 if you do not use a holster is the design does not allow for functional cases or skins. There is very little for the top case to attach to the screen. The top case clips can cause wear with the mechanism that senses whether the keyboard is open or not. When this breaks, you cannot bring up the touch screen keyboard, as it thinks the physical keyboard is open. I had a 9800 repaired for this fault and tossed the case after that.Last edited by robsteve; 02-27-12 at 09:34 AM.
02-27-12 09:32 AMLike 0 - Thank u all very much.
I was again assessing both the models again.
Verdict: 9810 looks sexy but the slider doesn't give confidence to a guy like me who loves to constantly fiddle with the device. I am a hardcore internet worm. U all might not believe but I reset my 8520 almost atleast 15 times daily as I keep on experimenting with themes and apps so the new cellphone has to expected the same from me hence the slider doesn't give the confidence.
9900 --- though I feel its built quality is not up to the mark for it being one of the flagship models from RIM --- is my gene fav as I love candy bar and qwerty phones and would prefer them.
To be more specific about the "built quality" issue: unlike 8520 9900's trackpad and screen hap a nano gap between them and the demo device's, which I put my hands on, gap had widened and had even tilted unevenly. So I suspect the same thing to happen with mine too.
People pls just reply with "9900" or "9810" in ur posts. Because I already have seen and analized both the devices I don't wanna get confused again by more in depth pros and cons.
Winner phone will be the one which gets most votes out of the first 10 replies.
Does I need to...ehem, bribe u to vote for 9900? ;-p02-27-12 10:08 AMLike 0 -

- Try the keypad when viewing in landscape. Something the 9900 and 9860 both do better than the 9810. Truth is when people surf with the 9810 they turn the phone sideways so they can utilize the screen properly and the physical keypad becomes useless. Why flip-flop between physical and virtual keypads when the 9900 has a better physical keypad and the 9860 has a bigger screen? The 9810 just combines the worst traits of the other two, not the best. Smaller screen like the 9900 and lack of a decent physical keypad like the 9860. Its stupid.02-27-12 06:15 PMLike 0
