When i use the short cut to compose it only lets me compose an email. Is there a way to hit the C button and start a new text????

I dont think there is unless you can assign SMS as the default some way.

when i go to compose it brings up my contact list...

just hit menu and it offers the option to
email contact
pin contact
call contact
sms contact
mms contact

(all names chasnged to protect the innocent..)

Have you separate your text from your email folder?

That the way I do it too, but I think he was wanting to avoid going that route.
