Whoever did that, should be put to work immediately with redesigning those awful BB10 icons!

Nice! Would like to see someone post something about the ring tones on the BB10. Hopefully they are going to be loud, and we are not going to have this great new phone with wimpy ring tones that you are barely going to be able to hear.

Has it occurred to you at all that the icons we've seen aren't necessarily the icons we'll get at launch?

While specific ones may get tweaked, I would expect that the basic design ideas behind the icons as a whole are done, meaning that the border that some people dislike and ignore its potential benefits is very unlikely to be going anywhere.

This looks ok but is far from awesome. Obviously they didn't put much effort into it but its a clean straightforward design at least.

Wait until you get the Z10 on your hand. Tilt it at every direction. And you will find awesomeness for the Compass, hehehe.

If you want to get exact alignment, put your Z10 not on your hand, but on the ground. after several second, you will get the fix alignment.

I'm really loving details like this; clean but very technical and functional-looking. I really love the look of the clock, too.

One of the reasons that BB10 has been getting some positive buzz, I think, is that aesthetic details like this are leaking out (or select people are getting hands-on previews) and they're surprised by the polish. Windows Phone is an exercise in "flattening" the UI and making it simpler. BB10 is coming across as clean, but still having a patina of... don't know exactly how to put it... "design confidence", maybe.

Skeumorphic design like this compass and the clock are generally regarded as Apple predilection. Some have criticized it but personally I like it for the eye candy.

Yeah, I get the Apple connection (which kind of goes back to some of the original Mac's metaphors). I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's a difference in the way RIM is implementing it here.

It represents your heading. It says you're heading north, slightly to the west.

Don't worry about it, you're never gonna use it. You'll just use the maps app instead.

Well I'm probably never going to use the compass but augmented reality requires calibration as well, that's what I need sometimes.

Looks great but what concerns me is that it says no location found. That reminds me of f*kin bing maps on the playbook. And I agree with one of the above posters, I better not have to wave it in a figure 8 every 30 seconds.
