Ousted BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins inherited a mess of problems when he took over the troubled company last year -- and his eventual replacement faces an even more dire situation...

The author is correct. Mr. Heins was distracted by the core Blackberry market by the idea of being the hearts and minds of the masses. I said many times here at CrackBerry that Blackberry was a business tool more than a consumer brand.

I don't know the actual production issues or marketing plans behind the decision, but I also agree with the author about the alienation of the core BB fans by releasing the Z10 as the first OS10 device before the Q10.

Something tells me if the Q10 launched first and did not sell well (it has not) , the article would have said Heins key mistake was releasing a "welcome to 2008" keyboard phone that is out of touch with where the market has gone.
