I sincerely doubt anyone can really notice the difference between 1080p and 720p on a phone screen, at least when viewing images or video.

1080p phone screen may not be much better than 720p

    720p vs 1080p - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

those 2 threads pretty much all the points you would need.

1080p is roughly 333mb per minute of data, meaning a 1080p movie, assuming 120 minutes long, would be roughly 40gb. A dual layer blu ray is 50gb, fwiw.

720p is roughly 78mb per minute, and a 720p meaning a 120 minute long video, is just under 10 gb.

Big difference, for not a lot of image quality difference, on a 5 inch screen.

It's not only the quality that matters.

Who will buy in the end of 2013 a BlackBerry that is called highend if it has 4,7-5 inch, 720p, dual core 1.5 if other brands make 4,7 inch with fullhd and quadcore?

Nobody will buy it because it sounds outdated before it gets even released.

    Xperia Z, fullhd @ 4,7 inch.

Perfect screen if they want to use 4,7 inch.
But don't forget that the Xperia z is a year old when BlackBerry release the a10 so it's already a year behind.

Other brands focus on higher than fullhd and BlackBerry is thinking that 720p will save them? No way!

I knew that the z10 would be midrange so I didn't mind.
But as highend I do expect high end.

What I think BlackBerry should make and also possible for them.

Cpu: snapdragon 800 / 8974 model, they can use one chip worldwide and this chip supports 2160p.

    Mem: 2 or 4gb

    Screen: 4,7-5 inch fullhd 400ppi+

Storage: 16/32gb + hot swap SD (128gb support)

Connection : micro usb + wireless charging + hdmi output in 2160p.

Camera: 8 -12mp, with f1.8 lens for back and 3-5mp with f2.2-2.4 lens for front.

Design can be the same as z10 or something more premium.

Battery: 2400+ amp for removable or 2800+ for non removable.

If BlackBerry following my guidelines they can keep things up and the new phone will sell a lot.

Has anyone peeked into libClock.so in that .bar file yet to see how to enable and open the "backdoor" pages?

(There are a handful of pages with among other things credits for the team that built the app, including a group photo.)

yeah but IN MY OPINION (not factual), the 1080p is more of a marketing tactic than anything, at least in terms of small screened mobile phones.

I guess if they are gonna stick to the 720p resolution to make developers, I just hope they use the highest quality screen possible.

    yep,

and although some may find it a waste of time to update the resolution of their app, most likely just will..

you gotta spend money (+time) to make money

    That could be true.

But if I have to spend 800 bucks on a phone with 1080p vs 720p. Guess which phone I'll buy?

This would be a huge mistake if BlackBerry does release it with 720p. It'd be considered a joke. Last years hardware, just like BlackBerry's always been.

I've always had hope in BB. But seriously, when all competitors are launching with 1080p. And your marketshare is shrinking. They might want to consider it.

I think a lot of people will automatically dismiss BlackBerry if they don't come up with a 1080p screen regardless if you can tell the difference or not. I agree that you can't tell much on a 5inch screen but I know a lot of people that picked the S4 for 1080p + quad core, they don't care about anything else than the specs : "It's the best on the market". A lot of people in here are pointing the fact that if BBRY doesn't release a top notch device - spec wise -, they will leave behind many potential customers and I think it makes a lot of sense.

I have a Q10 myself and I acknowledge that the specs aren't everything but I do not represent all the customers.

It's the same concepts with apps and games. Quantity does matter on a superficial level and from marketing perspective. Most users have hundreds of apps and games downloaded but rarely use most of them. Therefore more is more and bigger is better from that point of view.

while I agree, most mobile memory today is DDR2 spec. id rather have 2gb of either DDR3 or GDDR5 over 4Gb DDR2.

Should add, I know they are working on DDR3 for mobile, haven't a clue if they`ll take GDDR5 mobile, but maybe Sony using it as normal RAM in the PS4 will start to push things along to making it more cost effective. Ask anyone with a custom PC if 1033mhz DDR2 is anything close to 1866mhz (most people don't have 2100mhz) DDR3 and theyd simply laugh at you, so I think mobile should follow.

I don't think it matters. 1080p or 720p, it will only be used for arguments sake and nothing else. Unless you were heavy keen on having a 1080p screen for your phone, it's not going to turn people off when most people don't know or can't see the difference on a 5"

Nonetheless, if every manufacturer starts to use 1080p then I suppose BlackBerry will have to (once again) follow through with the trend.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 10.2 has not yet been released as a Beta. Furthermore the A10 won't be released till the end of the year...

It's still too early for everyone to get their panties into a knot.

I believe that 4GB DDR3 modules are set to launch on mobile devices by the end of this year. I remember reading about it a few days ago. I can find the source tomorrow if you're interested, but chances are you could look it up yourself much quicker.

Will you pay the extra cost ($10-30) and accept a weaker battery life for that ? I won't. BlackBerry is not lifestyle device; it's efficient device.
