Well, just wanted to throw this out there to help boost morale for BB10 on the PlayBook. Recently a BAR file for the clock application in 10.2 was released and I was surprised to find 1024x600 assets in there.

    http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-le...-alarms-816491

I didn't try loading it to the PB, but the fact that the assets are in there for the PB's screen size tells me they haven't forgotten about it just yet. In fact I'm willing to bet that the work needed to bring BB10 to the PB has proved far more challenging as that entire UI will need to be reworked to provide a decent user experience.

Anyway, just passing that along for a boost to the hope that some may still be hanging on to...

Then, antiRIM posts the contents of two of the JSON files found within the assets folders; one inside the 1024x600 (PlayBook), and a second one, which is found inside 720x1280/oled/ (A-Series).

You never know!! Maybe BlackBerry planted that leaked clock .BAR here, with the incorrect information in it!
They could be one step ahead of us!

A bit, yes, but considering that the launch of the A10 is still pretty far off, there is a chance they'll change their mind. I certainly hope they do.

If a series goes to 1080x1920, I will not be porting my apps forward to that resolution.

    No?
I would still choose the higher res on the bigger screen... Plus it would compete with Galaxy S4, HTC One, and whatever else.

Excuse my ignorance, but I thought I read at some point the development tools were updated to allow apps to work with different screen res but same aspect ratio. Sorry if I'm out to lunch here, but any idea what I mean?

And also, what are your apps? Curious!

This is how you CB10, son!

Maybe not now but inevitably 1080p will come, when who knows.

I seriously hope it comes with a 1080p screen....a 5" device with a 720p screen???? That's just giving people a reason to hate on this device. I know BB10 wants to make developers happy but they aren't gonna come anyway if BB can't get more users to the Platform. Make the end users happy and the developers will come

Yeah, the problem as a developer isn't really aspect ratio. It's screen resolution.

Most of my stuff is dynamically sized. But I'm not digging through 80 apps, 10's of thousands of lines of code to find all the changes where hard coding a resolution was necessary.

Not for a single model of phone that would be.too expensive for the majority of users.

I'll do 1080 when all the devices support it. Sorry, it's just a bad time investment for the small return.

My bad, wasn't thinking. Anyway, found that the Q10 is OLED and Q5 is LED so this is probably the A10.

My former (Sony) 43" TV screen was 720p ("HD ready") and it was brilliant. I think there's an error here to believe it won't fit a 5" screen. Just Marketing. It's above eye perception, especially on such tiny screens.

The real gain I have now with my full HD 50" is more related to LED technology, higher "refresh rate" (100Mhz+), some technical enhancements and software optimization that count IMHO much, much more than the resolution raise alone. (You can check that viewing non HD programs, for instance).

    Please stopp this 1080p story.

Don't measure phones on the specs sheet. The specs race is over. It's all about user experience. As long as I can make great pics and videos - great camera. As long I can watch videos and play games even in direct sunlight - graphics look fantastic - great display.

I've seen 800x480 displays that look better than 1080p displays.

The Z10 display is far better than the Q10 one. At least on my phones.

Same goes with RAM, CPU, GPU...

There is almost no chance they would make such a significant change to a device that will presumably be targeted at a Sep/Oct launch to be in the shops ready for Xmas due to the need to hit lab entry dates that would get reset back right to the start if they made such a major change this late in a project.

It is a slight shame that they won't be going with a 1080p display, but on the plus side the combination of a 720p display and a hefty battery should see a great work horse for BB's entry into the over-sized phone market.

You may well be right, I was just imagining that changing the screen resolution is a simpler process in my mind.

Most people were assuming that with 1080p displays becoming so mainstream on 5" models that BB would be forced to fall into line, but it seems not to be the case and hopefully they can produce a device that looks and performs good enough that people can overlook the utterly pointless spec arms race.

You would have the hardware change itself which wouldn't be trivial, then there is the supply issues if they have committed to x amount of the 720p display, software issues relating to the rez change and not to mention any impact on their rf performance of the device, so this would not be a simple change by any stretch of the imagination unlike them going from 1 to 2gig of ram between the dev alpha b and the shipping devices that was mostly just a software change to ensure the device saw the extra.

They would still be producing 720p devices too, but if there's a timeframe attached to their commitment, that could be trouble. Unless higher res screen was also from same vendor, and vendor was convinced.

I think "failphone" is a bit extreme.

Note, Note 2, S3 were all 720p-ish, and likely all in general size range of A10. Of course, they all came out a year ago at least, but just saying they're heavily in use now without screen res complaints.
