My BlackBerry is set to enter bedside mode (with restricted hours) when I put it on the charger. I've noticed the following when I put it on the charger (assume it's not time for bedside mode):
1. If the phone is password locked when I put it on the charger, it displays the clock indefinitely, and the display never shuts off.
2. If I put it on the charger while the phone is unlocked, and the phone password locks by itself, the clock and backlight stay on only until the backlight timeout expires. (The backlight timeout only becomes a factor after the phone locks by itself.)
