    Hi all,

I saw this online today and it's nothing earth shattering for a lot of people but it goes to show you about privacy.

CBC conducted an undercover privacy investigation where they developed an Android app and let users download it. They used similar permissions as most popular apps and they showed people's reactions to being "violeted" with their phones. It's interesting experiment and if you wanted to watch it in detail, here is the link.

The permissions are too broad and Google should review the permission requests and require the developer to justify it under legal writ.

It is up to the user not Google.

Who would install an app just because a random stranger tells them to?

That's just as dumb as using public WiFi.

But people are uninformed. They do download random apps, and they blindly check off permissions. The whole point of most Marketplace episodes is to show how companies (and charities - they've covered those too) take advantage of people's ignorance and trust.

The tech-savvy members of CB and other online tech sites are a tiny percentage of users.
