That looks fantastic!
That's sexy, i love it!
That's pretty sweet. 2 more weeks!
Awesome... Just Awesome.
Sorry, I need to ask...is this the native Maps app for BB10? or was this something you created using Cascades?
I believe this is an example of what developers can do using the tools that BlackBerry 10 gives you.
That is soooo sweet! For an app that is going to be used a LOT, i hope the native maps app incorporates these nice UI elements... Also i cant wait to see what the devs are going to come up with! I dont believe ive seen anything like this on apple devices before, and only a couple fancy camera apps on android using the gyroscopes.... Sweet! Come on january 30th
Imaging terrain or street view with this..it's be awesome.
Its a Cascades control. Look here: https://developer.blackberry.com/cas...tion_maps.html
Even the tilt feature is already baked in: https://developer.blackberry.com/cas...__mapview.html
It would be cool to include a "BBM this location" and another BB10 user could hit the same bubble and get directions to that location. I'm loving where this is all going. The possibilities with BB10 and Cascades are mind-blowing... It just keeps getting sweeter.
I have'nt seen this before not in gmaps anyway. I can easily see google ,cyborg community ripping this right now and watch this added feature be pushed in some ''gmap update'' tomorrow and google be called ''innovative''.
I have been saying it since seeing the pic story app I have 5% intrest in ported apps.My real intrest and what I will be downloading are cascade built for blackberry apps.I cant wait to go into the app store and just try out cascades built for blackberry apps. The variety and ingenuity is gonna be good to look at.
that's a sweet feature. how is this not on crackberry's front page?
wow, good mapping apps are coming...
just a curiosity, what backend (map provider) will they use? Google Maps, Bing, something else?
That is effing cool
That looks fantastic!
i hope the native maps app incorporates these nice UI elements
I think mapping is an interesting unknown with BB10. We've obviously seen the Bentley concept car which shows us some of the possibilities of navigation. Dan Dodge basically said that it's BB10 code and they just choose what code makes sense to use for a car and change the UI because it's a car. Now there is this video that was released. All-in-all, it should be very interesting. What I think everyone is curious about is who/what are they using for the mapping. I presuming it's Tom Tom, though I could be wrong about that.
I really enjoy the thought put into BB10. This is a whole new game, in my mind.
I also can't wait to download a boatload of B4B Cascade apps.... 13 freakin' days to go!
that's ... SuperCool ! :)
This first thing I thought of when I saw this was of the proof of concept video Tat made a couple years back.

Also I've tried the sample app on my Dev Alpha, and while the idea is kind of neat, in practical terms I'm a little underwhelmed. Its taking a 2D map image and rendering it on to a 3D plane. Which is fine, but if it came down to usability and real world usage in a navigation app it would be a little disappointing in my opinion. This screen shot might help illustrate what I'm taking about. As you can see from it even reading the street names in the mode becomes trivial. This is due to the limitations of them using a tile based system, versus a vectorized one. Hopefully this is NOT what they are using for the native maps app that will be shipped with BB10 and they use vectorized data instead.
^ Interesting. The GPS location of the guy in the new video (post 1) is very close to the TAT version. Both in Waterloo, very close to the St. Jacobs Farmer Market/Walmart Superstore area.
Okay, that's really neat. But the one thing that struck me was how fluidly that map reacted to when being manipulated.
I welcome our new Cascades coding overlords and what they come up with.
Ughhhh....I can't wait to have this on my Playbook. A Tablet and big a**navigation unit all in one :D
Awesome video
wouldnt be cool if you could also tilt and rotate the map?? ....**** YES!!
Insinuating that these features haven't already been in Google Maps (at least on Android) for several years? Nice to see them in BB10, though.
+1 for showing a map with the xpressway
