I saw a lot of people are putting off getting the 9550 because they want to wait for the Droid. Just because careful of 1st gen phones & remember 1st Gen = Bata.

so by this logic all BB's are just updated models of the first one right?
I think the Tour may be Verizon's answer to the Bold for ATT, but I think it's definately an upgrade to the 8830, because it practically the same phone with a camera and upgraded features. I fell in love with the 8830 but didn't get it because it didn't have a camera. When the Tour came out, I embraced it because it reminded me of the 8830. But even so, the OP has a point. The Tour had some major issues with the first releases, so I think the better advice is to wait out the 1st 45 days of any new release to make sure sure there are no major problems. IMHO.
actually the coming Droid phones are 2nd generation. First gen was the G1 on Tmobile, but the coming VZW phones, the Sprint HTC phone and the new Tmobile phone are on android OS 2.0

Lol none of which were made by motorola! Its a first gen. Motorola hardcore smartphone. If you like it get it, if you don't then don't. It won't be as good as a blackberry because its android. I used it for a while and it just got on my nerves more than anything. Then again so did the iphone!

I'm getting a Storm 2 BUT if I did go Android I'd go for one of the HTC models.
Even if you consider the Tour a 1st gen, look at how many people complained about the trackball and returned the phone. look at the 9700, although it's smaller than the 1st Bold look at the improvements. And BB learned from the Trackball used in the Tour now they use a trackpad. All i'm saying is Motorola has never made a non-Windows smartphone, so lets not start eating the cookies just yet.
God damn Verizon is not taking pre-orders on the Storm2!

They didn't start using trackpad because of the Tour... They had phones using the Trackpad before the Tour released...
Look at how much later the 9700 is releasing compared to the 9000, of course it has improvements. Even still, a lot of those improvements are not due to 9000 "problems", but rather to justify the upgrade price and get new $$$.
You can even find logic to the reverse... The 9000 has more features than the newer revision 9630 has (which was a response driven by the 9000).
