Canadian thriller mines intrigue of Parliament Hill
Deadlines author knows the Hill inside and out: Postmedias National Affairs reporter Stephen Maher has worked there for nine years. So despite the books disclaimer that its a work of fiction, one could be forgiven for thinking Mahers characters must be based on real-life personas at the centre of Canadas political sphere.
Macdonald trips on the mother of all stories, one he is personally connected to when his friend Ed Sawatski, a senior policy analyst, is found face down in the canal after the pairs drunken evening. The suspense builds as folks known and unknown start the search for Sawatskis blackberry and whatever may be on it.

That blackberry [sic], truly Canadian and beloved on Parliament Hill, is the source of intrigue.
