Why? The Canadian givernment loaned Vodafone money that Vodafone plans to invest in a Canadian company. The government will make money off of the deal. Also, this is a common practice. Governments are *supposed* to support local industry.

How is it unfair? To exactly who is that deal "unfair" to?

Apparently you don't know the difference between a handout and a loan.

Exactly. Vodafone has to pay it back in 5 years.

Sure..a company with Revenue of $62B, market cap of $92B, and cash reserves of $15B needs a loan to buy unsellable devices

Also, if I recall correctly, this is not the first time they received a government loan. I also recall them paying that one back with no issues. So with a good track record, what's the problem?

So, your argument is that because the recipients' revenue and market cap....a loan is actually a handout? A loan is a loan, regardless of your position at the time you accept it. And it wasn't to BlackBerry, it was to Vodaphone. Other than that, you were spot on.

So a reputable company is loaned cash for a purchase that they have to pay back.

This news must be rushed to the press immediately. It could go right up there with batboy!

All the more reason to lend them money. They're good for it.

Oh geeze... breaking out your tinfoil hat I see.

The EDC (Export Development Canada) is a Canadian Crown corporation whose sole purpose is to do exactly what they did with Vodafone. They have supported thousands and thousands of Canadian companies by financing loans in exactly this way.

But Please: Tell us more about this Canadian "conspiracy"... I'm actually interested to hear you explain it all to us.

Not sure Apple has to tell Carriers to do anything wrong... it just that if Carriers want the best deals, then they have to commit to a larger than they would like order. Which leads them to internally wanting to focus on those devices... especially when they are so successfully in bringing in new customers.

And it seems that Canadians really love Apple.... one of the few places they are beating Android in marketshare. One fruit is as good as another....

Why don't you try staying on topic? This thread is about a bunch of lying, cheating, cash hoarding thieves, known as Apple. Innocent until proven guilty, of course.

Actually, I see this as good business practice by our government. They know Vodafone has the resources to pay back the loan with ease so it's a win win situation

Ignorant comment. Only thing that is laughable is your complete disregard for facts.
EDC. Read up on it. Our company does a lot of business with its counterpart BDC.

Not a handout. Must be paid back in full. Vodafone paid the last one back in full.

Clearly, you don't understand these sorts of things... please refrain from commenting on them. This is nothing more than a good business decision.
