What if the opposite of the Q10 was released? A mostly touch device, but instead of a keyboard, the tool belt was included on the bottom?

    Thoughts?

Can someone mock this up as a concept?

I just think that it would defeat the purpose behind their new UI. A full touch with the belt would not sell as well as the Q20 or Classic because the screens are much larger and the need is minimal.

I had it, it was alright... but too narrow to type on comfortably.

I have both the Z10 and the Z30. I had a Storm 2 and my daughter had a Curve. At the time I saw the benefit of the track pad; it was so precise and efficient. Now, with bb10 I'm not sure I'd want it. Placing the cursor and editing is improving with each update. If there was a track pad, I wouldn't want it reducing screen real estate.

Simply put...with current touchscreen models this is the solution...

Replace the bottom part that says BlackBerry and input a capacitive touchscreen tool bar that is adaptable based on ui.

No need to change screen size just replace that bottom bar. BlackBerry bullets logo at the back, why have it on front and back?

I would appreciate a tool belt on this Z10. And the two convenience keys like my 8520 had.

That said, I doubt it would have stopped me from going back to the 9900. I loathe word whack a mole (prediction and correction) and just don't need it at all on the 9900, while the Z10 would be torture without it. That and the size/shape of the 9900 is better for 1 handed use.

At the end of the day, I think people would like the call buttons, but the rest most could live without on a full touch design.

The call buttons are so underrated! It's so hard to call someone on the q10. Well not hard but harder than when the physical call button is available

    Lock button with index finger.
    Call button with thumb.
    S with thumb.

I am now calling my wife (on a 9900).

Of course this could be shorted to a long press on S, but I have not gotten around to setting the speed dial. In any case, I don't even need to look at the phone to know it is doing what I want. The same cannot be said for the Z10 or my wife's HTC One Mini lol...

Is it really that much different on a Z10?
    Swipe up to unlock
    Tap phone icon
Hit one of the 3 shortcut icons at the top of the phone app

I had the 9860 for 18 months. It was a great phone however the tool belt made no sense on that product. On a 9900 or older legacy keyboard phone, I can see why people would want it but having the tool belt at the bottom of the screen, I hardly ever used those buttons. It was just awkward. Much prefer my Z10 now(couldn't say that in the early days!)

I guess they need some trace of the past on their devices for a sense of familiarity, quite frankly speaking, I hated all touch myself till I got the Z10, after which I can't go back to keyboards again. The Z30 just solidified my belief. BlackBerry 10 is the best OS on the market and I think if users tried them especially the Z line they will realize this.
