My service provider offers UNLIMITED data usage for "On-Device Browsing" but they charge $8 / megabyte for tethered modem usage!
I need a smartphone primarily for providing Internet to my laptop.
How can I get around this? How does my service provider know if it is "on device" or "off device" usage?
Does anyone know any tricks such as port forwarding, remote desktop connections, or other hacks that could be used?

Heresy
In the tips section there is a thread on using curve as a modem. Give that a shot.
