I really don't see how anyone can "harden" the security of operating system especially, if it delays the deployment of updates that are necessary to patch known vulnerabilities ASAP.
Look up AppArmor, SELinux and a bunch of other things. You can harden a server by closing ports, disabling unnecessary or unused services, add encryption, checksums, set and restrict execute and access permissions, set and require stronger passwords,... and a ton of other things just on the admin side.

Those hardcoded "0000" and "123456" default passwords in some IoT devices just shouldn't happen. That's part of hardening, too...

    :-D

(edit: basically, reduce the attack surface)

Read recently that Google Play store app itself is feeding back to Google .every Android phone, including DTEK 60 has Play Store app. So much for security

I am not sure what you are talking about, but having Google apps on most Android devices is NOT a security concern, but a privacy one. Security and privacy are related issues, but they are different issues.

Maybe the recent dtek app issue points out security issues of BlackBerry Android. Let's wait and see.

That can be true for any system, if the user is dumb enough.

Android is primarily a communication appliance... it communicates 24x7 with Google about everything :-D

That was the purpose of making Android a free OS and open source. So you have to use Google services. Otherwise, better get yourself another phone.

Important thing to remember is that security is not the same as privacy. Of course, the PRIV is supposed to have both.

As a BlackBerry user - having both is why I stuck with that brand so long.

Maybe Android will reach a good level of security - but the whole OS itself is made to track your privacy!
And additional to that to the standpoint from BlackBerry: When you don't control and create the OS yourself you can't make sure it's that level save you want it to have.
