If I download Opera Mini, do I have to do anything special to make it work? I'm wondering because, I've tried to switch to firefox, witch is already an option on my 8530, but, it doesn't work. And, is it worth downloading?

For OperaMini, you just install it, click on it and it works.

As for Firefox, it isn't available for any BlackBerry device.

Firefox and IE are just emulation modes. When you use one of the emulation modes, sites recognize your browser as FF or IE. But those aren't actual browsers for BlackBerry.

Bolt Browser is another 3rd party browser for use on BlackBerry, like OM. i prefer it.

I have Opera Mini on my BB. I tend to use the default browser more than Opera. There is something about the way you type search items into Opera that bugs me but overall it's a decent browser.
