i'm just wondering something now my sister has a bold 9700 from wind mobile in canada and she is wondering if it is unlocked now she can use T-mobile and it works with the sim card so does this mean that her phone is unlocked, or is it because TMO and wind use the same network?
also do you know if KOODO also in canada has the same network as wind/TMO thanks

T-Mobile USA and WIND use the same 3G frequencies (1700/2100 mhz). phones from these carriers will work with the other and can use the full 3G signal. Bold 9700's from other carriers will only get EDGE.

it looks like Koodo, a subsidiary of Telus, only operates 850/1900 HSPA+ (no EDGE). the WIND and T-Mo handsets will not be compatible.

If it works with the SIM card for calls and SMS then yes, it's unlocked.
If you want to make sure a Blackberry device is unlocked from it's branded carrier all you need to do is simple go to "Options" > "Advanced Options" > "SIM-Card" and type M E P D (this will open a screen on the menu) and then you will see a few lines with "Active" / "Disabled" status next to each line.
Look at the one that says "Network" and see what is next to it, if it's "Active" then the SIM lock is active and the device is locked, if it says "Disabled" then the device is unlocked and can be used with other GSM carriers by inserting a SIM card into it.
The full unlocking instructions can be found here if needed: Blackberry 9700 unlocking instructions

Koodo is owned by Telus so not the same network as wind/TMO/Videotron/Mobilicity.
