BlackBerry is doing a lot of partnering.... that will help hasten the end of their own hardware.

Very strange for a company that now and in the near future, relies pretty heavily on hardware sales.

The partnering is to allow the Boeing phones to be managed by bes12. BlackBerry will get money for each of these phones licensed on the bes12 server. It will allow them to get this revenue in places that normally wouldn't use BlackBerry hardware (super secure requirements). So if anything they are expanding their foot print. Sounds like a smart idea to me.

It's a great idea but still, it makes me wonder why BlackBerry didn't do something like this on their own by now.

Probably because their trying to focus on software? Their resources will be focused on software.

Software is the key to future successes and long term goals nowadays as the Chinese manufacturers keep pumping out cheaper phones so no one can compete with them on prices. Look how huge Google is now and they don't even need to sell phones and could sit back and money would keep coming in.

If they can just sell software. They will win. BlackBerry has always been a 50/50 company.
