In the past few days when I begin to dial a phone number in the right corner a small icon appears that is half navy/black and half royal blue with a diagonal line of stars. No idea what it is or how to remove it. HELP!

Is it a part of your theme??
*EDIT* Or is this during the call? If it is during the call it may be the audio enhancement stuff... a little rectangle icon half blu and black. Hit menu during the call and change this option back to normal!

I do not really use it, but you can turn it on and boost the treble or bass of the incoming call audio.
