    I haven't had time to read through all of this thread but this is what I've gleaned today:

    It seems the Blackphone founders never claimed 100% security and have spent an awful lot of time recently telling people that, what they do claim is a "more secure" phone. But there are other issues that bother me more:

    Firstly, the OS is based on Google's Android, not the most secure starting point to be sure;
    Only voice and SMS are secure, no real information about how more secure emails are;
    Voice is only secure over VoIP and as Blackphone don't have their own servers your calls are only as secure as the ISP servers you're routing through;
    Your privacy is secure only when being received by another Blackphone or an Android phone that also has a Blackphone service subscription;
    Subscription costs $120 per year;
    Outside of claims made by Blackphone themselves there's very little evidence as to how much more secure their subscription service is and whether it's any more secure than a BlackBerry. As very little is mentioned about email in their blurb I would imagine there's not much of an advantage there, but what about SMS? Is it as secure as BBM? They're not saying.

    I have my doubts about this but even if I didn't the rather clunky way that it works is enough to put me off. I want top notch security that's seamless, this is far from it. I am intrigued by the voice aspect but only from a geeky nerdy point of view.

    Will be interesting to read what BlackBerry has to say about this, if they respond at all...
