Hello,

Might already be posts on this on the site; not seemed to find what I'm looking for though.

Was just wondering, what's the options of using a BLackberry and ubuntu linux? As in the desktop manager wise? I use DM quite a bit (for synching, import/export of pics/vids/music, used it to install the os 5.0.0.1067 etc)

Now as a more avid user of ubuntu over windows, I know I can plug it in and use it to drag and drop files but I like to use DM or something like it?

I also know how to use Wine pretty well but not a fan of using windows programs on linux, so my # anyway I could use my bb fully with linux?

Virtualbox with a Windows guest would be pretty much the only way to do it, just like with Netflix.

As far as syncing, you wouldn't need anything special - just use file manager and terminal to move/sync.

Just ran across something interesting - Barry for Linux. Have yet to try this out myself - I'm on the road for the next couple weeks; I'll drop the link for anyone else wanting to give it a whirl, and I'll post back just as soon as I get the chance to try it.

What's your opinion on the install procedure? Looked over this without doing anything, appears that while compiling from source or making a .deb is fairly easy (depending on one's level of experience) the dependencies could be an issue - doesn't look like they're all listed in one spot, I've seen some listed on some pages that aren't on others and vice versa. This appears to be a PITA simply due to rounding up all the libs needed before installing, but that's without committing to it yet.

For now, I'll stick with Win7 Starter in vbox on Arch and Mint. Works fine for routine backup/restore, but W7S has issues trying to use apploader. So if that's all Barry can do then I don't see a valid reason to install it outside of "I did it", or using native linux software instead of wine or Windows in a vm.

Install was easy, but it's exactly what you said; no real point if all it does is backup/restore.
I like linux for it's advantages, but I won't refuse to use windows to avoid it's shortcomings.

Have they fixed the browser memory issues since 534, including forced closing of tabs and disappearing text?

Nope. Bus the forced closing of tabs happens not so often now.

I've never seen a 'Memory Utilisation' option in Media, in any OS build. Can you explain where it was exactly, and what it did?

I've also never experienced that 'old bug' where login info is lost. I'm permanently logged into CB and always am after a reboot.

You choose the Media-Option in the Main-Menu (where you then get the selection for pictures, videos, music and so on).

Hit Menu

Choose "Memory Utilisation"

Then the memory card was checked and you got several information displayes, e.G.

Total Memory: 16 GB
Used: 12 GB
Free: 4 GB

Usage:
Videos 9 GB
Pictures 2 GB

and so on

What virtual machine are you using? I've tried VirtualBox several times and can never get DM to connect to the BB.

By default you need to tell each vm what usb devices it can have, it'll do plug and play as long as you have each device allowed access by the vm - go to usb setti gs with the vm shut down and your device plugged in so the manager can see it, then select it in the drop down. Make sure you read the info box on how it gets swapped between host and guest OS.
