Did blackberry design the trackball/selector model to drive users insane? It is a seriously flawed design and should be recalled. I paid over $200 for my 8830 and what I got in return is a phone that doesen't work. All that jazz about cleaning the unit, rebooting, etc. is just a temporary fix if it works at all. One day the track ball will be possessed by demons that replys to emails without your knowledge and the next day it won't even move at all. I want my damn money back and would not mind doing a Christian Bale rant against the jackass that made the decision to make the trackball king.

How do you carry your BB? Do you carry it around in your pocket? If you do, then you are partly to blame for your trackball problems.

Nope...in the holster. I realized how many people have the same issue once I started Googling the problem.

At a minimum, BB should have had the foresight to give a plan B option to scroll. Without the track ball, you might as well use a pay phone.

If your BB is within the 30 day worry free guarantee period take it back to Verizon for a replacement, ditto if it is under a year old (RIM warranty).

Which is why many of us have spare trackball assemblies available.

You either have a defective trackball or device, the problems you are describing, don't happen very often...

Try Googling trackball and blackberry problem and see how many people have the same exact issue. Anyway, I plan on having the entire trackball and selector assembly replaced, but if that won't fix the problem I'll just get a new phone.

Do you know how many Blackberry phones are out there? Of course you are going to get hits on a Google search.

It's just not that big a deal, if it was, RIM wouldn't be in business would they?

I see, but why would you buy a phone and then buy spare parts?? It sounds like a used car. I had the older blackberry models for years that needed battery replacements only..you would think that the models would improve with age. Right?

When a stupid 10 cent replacement part causes a $200 plus dollar phone to become useless, I think it is a serious design flaw and should be examined. No back-up plan for a defective trackball makes the phone a paperweight.

Whatever, dude. Why don't you trade in your BB for the Samsung Omnia? They are 50% off now, and they have an optical trackball (no moving parts).
