It's OpEx today folks -- this is a very NASTY time to release news that moves the stock as anyone on the wrong side of an options position has exactly nothing they can do about it.

If you really wanted to burn short-sellers this would be the time to release something that is GOOD news -- on purpose -- to bury them.

I have no idea what it is; releasing BAD news today will also have a severely-exaggerated move for the same reason, but the company has little reason to do that at a time like this for obvious reasons.

We'll see what it is when it comes out.....

(What would make it even worse -- a LOT worse -- would be if they kept it halted through the end of the day! That could easily wind up with people getting assigned on options without anything they can do about it, depending on exactly how it's handled.)

Preliminary Q2 Results

-- Company expects GAAP net operating loss of approximately $950 million to
$995 million; loss includes a primarily non-cash, pre-tax inventory
charge of approximately $930 million to $960 million resulting from the
increasingly competitive business environment impacting BlackBerry
smartphone volumes, and a pre-tax restructuring charge of $72 million

Source? And if this is accurate it still wouldn't prompt a halt in trading.
