    Hi all,

Has anyone heard anything about this new concept phone called the “Spirit”? Almost no info on the internet but a great video on YouTube at:

This phone looks unbelievable with it’s specs and styling.

The reason there’s no info is that this isn’t a real thing. It’s just some fanboy’s fantasy, and will never be a real product.

Why so negative? Why would somebody spent so much money making a professional video - for no reason? I could see it if it was a Soros/Bezos funded attempt at slagging Donald Trump for the MSM, but just to spend it on a video that very few people will see ........?

OP the clue is in the word "concept".

You search "blackberry concept" and you find hundreds of ideas that fans have created over the years.

To me concepts get people excited about a phone that will never be and then you have people compare concepts to what gets release by a phone maker, thus disappointment. I think it would not be a bad idea for BlackBerry mobile to hold a design contest for a flagship touchscreen blackberry phone and document the whole process. One it will allow for fresh ideas and two it would clue people in on what it takes to make a phone from start to finish.

It's not fresh ideas that they need, it' getting all the components to fit into the design at the budget that allows for the profits that they need. And most of these concept guys aren't worried about how to fit working components into a package or what those components would cost.

A 'concept' is a hand at creativity. An 'idea' that could change the way we do some of the things. There are also 'hints' embedded into them. It's another matter that a manufacturer may not pay heed to any - but if they do / when they do - some unique things do get made:

If someone hadn't thought out-of-the-box iPhones wouldn't've been there.

    Thanks @rickzimmerman for the share.

That “someone” had 20 years of experience in product design and engineering at Apple before the iPhone. He knew very well what could and could not be done, and still it was an iterative process that took years and probably didn’t look like the initial concept.

^Fair enough @Elephant_Canyon. That's what 'concepts' are for.

OP didn't just ask about collective thought of the concept but if we'd heard about it. We're constantly shooting down misinformation on CB threads. Why all the hurt feelings??

I'm not saying concepts aren't cool to look at an creative from a visual standpoint. But without those concept artist having a clue of what can fit into a device and what it cost to curve this part or to use titanium in stead of plastic, or where to put the antenna so singal isn't blocked or how much glue to put on the screen.... concepts offer very little for manufactures to use.

Beside the iPhone really wasn't thinking out of the box... there already were other all touch devices on the markets by that point, with more already in the pipeline. What made it stand out wasn't the look, but that it was a next step for the popular iPod. And iOS was able to evolve to allow "apps" to broaden the usefulness of the devices.

IOS evolved for apps because the phone could not do anything when launched. It needed a special app for everything because webapps weren't powerful enough without Flash, yet.

Now that webapps are powerful enough, we are stuck with apps because they have more direct access to your personal data for mining.

Every single part of this is incorrect.
