Most of the Fortune 500 companies including manufacturing, hospitals, law firms, private businesses are using IOS and Android devices integrated into their everyday task and don't miss a beat.
Well, they do miss many beats, but they don't notice.

Stage 1 of corporate phone use: 'they gave me an iphone. But I'm keeping my BlackBerry for messaging and emails, and use the iphone for games & picture taking'

Stage 2: 'now they took away my BlackBerry. It pisses me off, and I hate the typing, and everything takes me much longer now when I'm on the road, and sometimes I'm even late when getting back to customers or to my people, but I'm afraid I'll have to live with it. BlackBerry is no longer supported by my company'.

Many (not all, but the majority) of my current & former work mates who work for large international corporations went through this.

Sounds irrational? But this is how big enterprises and 'The Market' often behave. And this COULD also become the niche for the Venice (sorry I can't even write this silly official name).

There are also a lot of people in the workforce that were kids when their Dad used a BlackBerry but never themselves used one and have been just fine.

The reactions regarding the Priv are surprisingly positive, just read comments on websites and blogs. People like the design, some people actually waited for an Android device sporting a physical keyboard, the hardware is competitive with the rest of the Android field, it even sports a microSD-slot - something which several competing devices don't offer.
Last but not least there are older BlackBerry fans who switched because BB10 didn't deliver a large app catalogue, it does now with the Priv.
Besides why it wouldn't make sense to buy an Android phone made by BlackBerry? On the contrary why it makes sense to buy one from HTC, Huawei or OnePlus?

Even the Passport had good feedback from bloggers and see how that turned out, a total flop. Bottom line is this, 99.99% of phone buyers do not visit blogs or tech websites.

I've heard some are too lazy to respond from an iPhone. It's true. And they wait till they're back in the office to respond.

It's 2015. I'm still getting garbled messages from customers and partners (using iPhone with the tell-tale signature) full of abbreviations and misspellings. As short as possible. More of an excuse than a real email response. No offense, but I believe these guys *are* missing a beat. I don't even sit down at my desk anymore, not even blending....

My hope is, Priv can change this. My email and TXT consumption would appreciate that ...

I still believe, non-keyboard devices are still more like consumption and info absorption devices than content creation ones. Apps are surely contributing.

    :-)

We might disagree on this one. Passport has replaced my desktop / laptop to a great extent. It's only a mothership to offload info and back up to. Blend and Link's remote file access certainly help.

I believe this device will sell very well. It will be among the most successful Android devices (apart from Samsung flagships) this product cycle. It will be followed by other BB PKB devices in other form factors, and even full touch devices. All running Android and of little interest to me (because of the built-in contempt).

The Classic was the last BB10 device, unless Chen changes his mind.

BB10 "needed" was whatever it takes to have better sales. We're beginning another era with Android. So, at this point......it's mute(doesn't matter).

What i see here is people who don't embrace change. Lets face a bit of reality, just for a moment. If what you say is true how do you explain the market share of Apple and Android? This is like the business of Porn. Nobody ever watches it. It's always criticized and condemned and yet it's a multi billion dollar a year business. Somebody is watching it the same way somebody is using the other platforms. This blind loyalty to a company that just cant get it together is a bit scary. If BB was truly about getting back any market share at all we would see commercials. I see Samsung commercials every single day. I see iPhone 6s commercials every single day. I never see a BB commercial. The last one I saw was a Super Bowl commercial quite a few years ago. The fact is, If it was such a great phone it would sell. I truly hate saying this. I loved my BB and if It hadn't died I may still be using it but, It did and there was no suitable replacement for it. Is the iPhone perfect? hell no! it took me hours to get the initial setup right for me.

Whether the Slider sells(which I think it will) or it doesn't sell(Chen wants 10 million), the focus will not be on BB10. Otherwise, we would have a BB10 Slider.

I went into a few local retailers this weekend looking for a BB Passport. There were none to be found, one retailer even told me it was discontinued without missing a beat. I did however find one z30 and two z10 devices(which are not selling) . So I had a discussion about blackberry in general. The sentiment these retailers have gotten from customers on blackberry 10 has been so negative, they don't want to sell or push the hardware. I asked about the priv.. only one store even knew about it and was still hesitant to carry it , saying it will depend on how they handled the os. Hopefully that isn't the attitude a large number of phone retailers have because it sounds like it's DOA in my town before it's even launched.

What has amazed me is when I hear folks tell me that OS10 is so much more productive and that folks who use an iPhone or Android device are using toys instead of a tool.

First of all, you can't be frigging serious and you obviously haven't been involved with the current corporate environment in 2015!

Most of the Fortune 500 companies including manufacturing, hospitals, law firms, private businesses are using IOS and Android devices integrated into their everyday task and don't miss a beat.

IPads and Android tablets are being use in restaurants, hospitals, legal firms, local municipality's and so on and use custom apps to get the job done.

I love Blackberry just as much as the loyal fan does, but this is 2015 and not 2007 and the dynamics have drastically changed.

The two dominant platforms are Android and IOS and they are the ones that all others will be judged against.

I personally think Blackberry's decision to move into the Android based device is a smart one. You can also bet they where also being pressured by some of their larger corporate clients to move into that direction.

I for one welcome the Priv and I am committed myself to buying three of them if the pricing is in line with current devices on the market.

As I have said many times, in today's highly competitive market, you either roll with the competition or get rolled over, period.
That was a well thought out, lucid statement. BB was rolled over back in 07. For those that missed the memo. LOL

Time for us to except some truth about what is happening. There is a Catch -22 involved with this device- Slider. If the device sells great, why would Chen go back to what was not selling? If the device doesn't do as well as what Chen guestimates is a good number, I don't see him going back to BB10. Still waiting for my Z30 to return from being repaired while a use a Samsung. Nice Smartphone, definitely not a BlackBerry. Even with a potential few (say a dozen updates), minor updates......with the DEVs already moving on. I'm disappointed like others, but, it's business as usual and change is required since BB10 didn't make the numbers from the initial launch. Meaning numbers anticipated/ guestimated to be sold and it's not getting better. Last phone? Who really knows. I do know BlackBerry will never be the same again.

Just because people are talking about it doesn't mean they'll buy it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Only time will tell.
Yep. It's certainly not going to appeal broadly to all consumers. Only a certain slice of the market will really want the physical keyboard. It's still more business focused. Who knows. The appeal is broader than any BlackBerry 10 phone they have done.

There is no business case for continuing with BB10 devices at this stage.

Many "Loyal" BB fans do not agree with going droid. But w/e. Good luck with this, you'll need it.
Who cares? There aren't enough "loyal" BlackBerry fans to keep the hardware division alive. I don't care if the company released a phone with a 10k screen, powered by a 4GHz 16-core Flux capacitor, 16GB of RAM, and 50 hours battery life under full load, if it came with BB10 they still wouldn't sell 1 million per quarter.

Believing that BB10 can ever regain marketshare without a competitive app ecosystem is like believing in the tooth fairy. Some of the stuff I read from the minds of adults on this forum is perplexing.

OMG Petabytes of analysis on these forums and still half truths and dumbed down arguments. Ok.
Then you should be ashamed for being on the wrong platform all along. So you didn't leave earlier because of loyalty towards BB? How touching.
Anyway, the more you repeat the same refrain, the more it looks like the truth. Another thousand posts and it will actually be the truth. In a Foucaultian way, at least.

    It's a phone OS, not a religion.

And reality remains "real", regardless of how many believe!

But, congratulations on equating the end of BB10 with a "tree falling in the forest, with nobody to hear it fall; does it actually fall?" situation.

The writing is on the wall. BlackBerry refocused on enterprise. Chen said they needed to sell 10 million phones a year to keep the BB10 handset business afloat. It didn't work. Something is going to change, and has now.

I have been a BlackBerry faithful for the past 10 years, owning at least 12 phones in that span of time. I just recently traded my backup second Passport for a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (it was too good of a deal money wise to pass up). After a few days with this device, I can see why BlackBerry will have a very difficult time penetrating the consumer market. This is an excellent phone, great design, prestige looking, and it runs well.
I'm still using my Passport as my main device, however, that S6 is very tempting to become my daily driver.
I'm still a BlackBerry loyalist, and from my own personal experience, any new phone introduced by BlackBerry has to be top quality with great specs if they want to expand their market share.
