Just recently Iíve talked about how great BlackBerryís platform is, even though the Canadian company has hard time convincing users to buy their gear. Today I want to imagine the perfect BlackBerry device. And thatís an easy task Ė all we need is a Padfone-like device running BlackBerry OS.
As Iíve said it in the previous post, BlackBerry has an amazing web browser which easily outperforms many (if not all) other mobile browsers. And that goes for all mobile devices and platforms. If you run BlackBerry Browser through any HTML5 benchmark site, youíll see how easily it tops the chart, leaving competitors in the dust.
Now imagine that great browser on a bigger screen. Thatís right, you get a Chrome OS-like experience. Add a Padfone-like design to the mix, and you get a perfect mobile device. And Iím talking about the original Padfone, which included the keyboard dock (in addition to the tablet station), not the newer models which lack the ever-useful keyboard.
That said, Iím wondering whether BlackBerry executives are thinking between the same lines. The way I see things, the Canadian company *must* go beyond traditional form factors to succeed. Even though they have a rock solid technology, they face extinction.
Remember Sonyís Beta Max? It was way superior to the VHS; alas, it never caught on. Is BlackBerry a new Beta Max? What do you think?

BlackBerry Padfone could be a game changer

That's a lot of software development for a downsized company that never even got BB10 working for the Playbook. Sales would probably be fairly low given that there is competition from Windows tablets/notebooks, Android tablets/notebooks, low-priced Chrome notebooks, and the likes of Macbook Airs and iPads with hardware keyboard cases. There is a lot to choose from, here, in all prices and with compatibility with any app you can think of on any platform. Having a cool UI wouldn't be anywhere near enough.

There have been many threads about this subject. They started when Heins said the Tablet was doomed . Since then Tablets have only got cheaper. You can buy a better Tablet, probably cheaper too, than you could buy a Padfone.

I think the enterprise types would benefit from it.

Enterprise types are more focused on going as light as possible. Hard to see them gravitating to a phone that's too large to fit into a jacket pocket or easily use while hauling a carry on and a suitcase behind them in the airport while trying to get to their next flight.
