Tonight on the orielly factor, the topic was related to privacy and Apple. This is in regards to the recent investigation into the San Bernardino terror attack. The FBI wants access to the iPhone used by the terrosists but apple is pushing back. One if the guests Monica Crowley said she carries a blackberry because she values privacy (she also mentioned president and the kardasians) the host filling in for OReilly also broke out his iPhone and BlackBerry Classic. Nice to see BlackBerry spun in a positive way once in a while.

They're not. "Playing the media" suggests a direct and purposeful manipulation of the situation, which I don't see at all. I think that if Cook and co. had their way, they'd be as far away from this case and the debate between privacy and national security as they could. The thing is, this does give Apple a certain credibility, if you will, as far as valuing privacy and security. The narrative now is that they made a phone so secure that the government not only couldn't break into it, but that the government had to go as far as getting a court order to have Apple unlock it. They may not be "playing" the media, but the attention surrounding this case has helped them...to a degree.

Apple is being wise with how they framing the topic because if Apple provide a tool to the government or develop one in house, it only take one person to leak the code or the program itself and then no iphone would be secure even those in the usa government.

From my understanding the phone in question might be corporate phone and if so why did the company have a mobile management system in place.

Which is it? Earlier you said that Apple claimed they invented smartphones in Cook's letter, and anyone with decent reading comprehension knows that he didn't make any such claim. Now you're claiming that the letter was written in such a way so that people would infer that they invented it? Pick an argument.

"Anyone with decent reading comprehension"... so going off that, most of the US doesn't have descent reading comprehension since they think mp3 players and smartphones were started with the iPod and iPhone.

Thank you for laying out the facts. It's obvious that Apple should have stated in their own letter: "Smartphones, led by BlackBerry..." when discussing this topic. That would make people understand that Apple didn't invent the smartphone (because that was their obvious intention) and that even though it is a letter from Apple, about Apple, they should reference competitors smartphones as leading the way as well. Makes perfect sense.
