I just updated BlackBerry Link to 1.2.3.48, and I noticed a backup was not only quicker, but it was displaying apps as it backed them up. Using the Custom backup option, click Configuration and then I think it was Details on the App Data option and you can check on or off specific apps to backup now! I haven't tried restore yet, but I'd assume it'd be there too.

Sorry if this was already well-known.

I just backed up 10.2.1.2947. Going to wipe my phone and install the 3175 update. I needed to test an issue I'm having accessing two internal secure sites over the Work perimeter. So I will probably try restoring after I test that. So it'll probably be a little bit.

When did the update come out? I just happened to open Link to do a backup and noticed there was an update, then noticed some changes after that...

They also have "Quick Backup" for your contacts etc. Kinda like BBDM used to do.

Update: When doing a custom restore (now running 10.2.1.3175), I noticed a app data that it listed was a small list. Then I noticed the warning that said some data can't be restored. When clicking the Show Details link, it listed most of my apps. The message said "The following applications are not installed on the device and the backup file did not include the binaries". That window was really tall and thankfully I have one high-resolution monitor so I could move it to another window to click OK (hitting enter would have worked sight unseen too I guess).

So that would explain why the backup was quicker. But this also makes the restore less useful, but it's not the end of the world but just more running around installing apps in BB World first.

Only thing we need now is allowing backups from newer to older builds if you have to revert back on the same branch lol

I installed "authomator" and then did a custom restore and I was able to restore the app data for that app. I thought I unchecked everything but Authomator, but it seemed to restore some other stuff too (it didn't look like it restored the data for all the default apps even though I had unchecked them).

BTW, I noticed "BlackBerry Runtime" shows up too (336.4 MB), so that must be Android APKs I installed.

First time I'm hearing about it myself
Then again, I'm no frequent restorer or Link updater

    Anyone?

The question actually being why one should backup binary application data in addition to the respective applications.

I read in a German BlackBerry forum that binary data represents the data created by apps or in apps, like the text of SMS, whatsapp etc. I can't find the source for this info though.
