And if you work on the basis that BB7 outsells BB10 3:1 - what's the actual demand for a z20?

i think Z3 will help BB improve their position ....but not as they used to (number 1)...maybe up to number 4 or 5.

they have to sell Z3 with competitive pricing, and huge marketing push.

in indonesia it is easier to change carrier..Telkom gain a lot of subscribers from other carrier.. problem for BB is most of BB users using older model phone, not upgrading to a new one

Blackberry users still represent 25% of total Telkom users. Further, Telkom grew broadband users by 45% (all brands) and 31% (BlackBerry only) indicating BlackBerry is still a formidable presence.

yes BB is still presence, but their sales number are dropped significantly. most people including me only using older BB phone, not the new one

you can see from telkom official press release (it is new press release, but i think they mistype the year number)....they never mention BB subscriber number , i think the site you quoting acidentaly mixed data from last year http://www.telkom.co.id/assets/uploa...o-investor.pdf

Well whatever it is, BlackBerry should not be disheartened and give up. They should release the Z3 and continue to be competitive and aggressive. They can still claw back marketshare.

It has been like that for quite a while. Most Indonesians still carry BB 7 device for only the cheap BIS data plan in addition to other devices they also carry. Once the old BB bites the dust they go with cheap Android as replacement. Easier than ever to do now as BBM is also available on Android. Indonesia was once the true BB nation, but no longer.

The Z3 will be a formidable phone at under $200. It should do well to bring back some of that BB love into Indonesia

I believe and I'm hoping that the Z3 will make a huge difference. There are very cheap Android phones out there running Jelly Bean in the same price range or cheaper than the base legacy device, these figures are hardly surprising really. In 2014, BBOS is lame compared to the cheapest Andoid phones out there

Well the Z3 based on the rumor of spec. of 720x1080, 5 mega pixel and 5 inches screen size, if it is true, it beats of its competitors who selling their devices for $200 and under. I believe with Video Screen Sharing capability, Z3 is way, way a head of competitions for the price under $200. A lot of consumer don't understand how Video Screen Sharing is good for. If you are a start up company, you don't need to build a fancy video conference, telepresence. Just a room with LCD projector hook up to BlackBerry BB10 phone that is all you need to do a Power Point Presentation. You can give a presentation from LA to your group in San Francisco by using screen sharing video.

I thought the screen was much lower resolution than that tho? I picked up A Chinese Android after Christmas with a true 5" 720p screen for $160 delivered to the UK. I was amazed at he quality and even more amazed that 3 months later it's still as good as new. The competition and quality at the bottom end is unbelievable at the moment.

BB biggest sales drop is when BBM becoming cross platform in indonesia, many people still carrying BB, but it is the older model.. tech in asia, financial times already release article before about how smartphone market in indonesia suddenly change and BB numbers in here keep dropping

When BBM Video Screen Sharing available for cross platform, the market will value BBM more plus BlackBerry will put ads in the Channel is the perfect solution. It is more accurate target than Google Adwords search matching keywords/phrases. Within a few years after the cross platform is completed, every corporations/company/advertising company/small business owners have got to have BBM Channel. Who knows within a few years, it might take a lot of business from Facebook and Google Adwords. Time will tells!

You honestly think Google is amateur enough to allow BBRY to beat them at their own gravy train?

If xBBM was the catalyst to drive adoption of other platforms it is unlikely that simply adding something like Channels to BBM will lure them back. As soon as Google or Facebook get a sniff of something working like that, they will implement it cross platform and the users will stay put.

Screen-sharing already exists on Google Hangouts, and has for a while. But that's not the kind of feature that drives people to switch platforms anyway - the vast majority of people will never use it.

Some of the Chinese devices are pretty good for the money, having said that I picked up a nexus 5 yesterday and it's a great device for the money.
