People are obsessed about more ram, and more cpu speed, when the experience on PC has shown that its the slowest element that causes speed bottlenecks more than the faster elements - hence they _should_ be focusing on the storage, replacing plain nand flash with simple ssd, and replacing the ram rather than over 2gb, with 2 gb's of highest speed, dual channel ram (depending on the OS, but I think for most 2 is probably plenty, 3 at the most).
The cpu doesn't really need to go anywhere, its not whats causing hold ups. Its the ram and the storage - thats what multi-tasking is slowing things down due to. You give a PC enough ram (4 for windows 7 32, 6 for 64 bit), and an ssd, and it flies, even if the CPU is a bit dated, multi-tasking whatever.
The trouble with smart phones and tablets isn't the cpu speed, plain and simple. Its slow internal nand flash primarily, and then slow ram, secondly. Then after that is RAM amount, and only after that - cpu speed. The slowest parts are where the bottle necks happen.
Retina display is another example. Its roughly 50% more resolution than one really needs. You basically never see the pixels at slightly lower resolutions, and its smooth sharp and easy to read. People obsess with higher resolutions, but the truth is, if your not going to throw it up on the flatscreen or a projector, your not really going to see much benefit from that very slight increased sharpness. You are however going to lose a crapload of battery power running it AND it will slow down your machine :P (In both cases, quite a lot)
And thats the other thing people miss. They look for battery mah, when they should also be looking for power efficient cpus and gpus, power efficient wifi, and power mindful OS coding. It makes a significant different to have a cpu that runs on half the power, or an OS thats well coded. It can mean hours of battery life either way, one more or less power efficient element.
So all these none technical people, who are not at all thinking with practicality, or indeed any thought process, see some bigger numbers, and say - hey thats better. But generally its not really at all, its just a gimmick. Often its an annoying or impractical gimmick, like a retina display, slowing down your OS experience, and chewing up battery.
Its amazing how many dopes fall for it all.
Back on the flagship story - So long as it has hard keys, and some innovative software approaches, im curious to see what the new classic is like. Clearly the classic is their new flagship for this year, yes?
A lot of the magic of a system is in its software, OS, and the hardware features, rather than hardware specs.
Thank god its not the blackberry equivilant of one of those samsung monstrosities :P
