Is it possible to disable all transmitting/receiving features so that the BB is nothing more than a calculator/storage device/music player?

A hardware solution would be preferrable, but I wouldn't discount a software solution.

    Thanks in advance!

go to manage connections and turn off the wireless network and bluetooth connection simple as that!

you can turn off all the wireless stuff (BT, WiFi and cell) by putting the phone in Airplane mode. All the other features should work.

Would you still be able to dial 911 even without a contract or plan? If you can, this probably wouldn't be acceptable

Any cell phone is required by law to be able to access 911 whether it is on a plan or not.

Usually I am not one to question why someone does something...

But in this case curiosity has gotten the best of me. Why do you want to so thoroughly disable the devices ability to transit, even 911?

As far as I am aware, there is no real way to permanently disable the devices ability to send and receive data short of ripping out the radio. And I would think that would disable the device completely.

I'd like to use a BlackBerry as my laptop/desktop mouse and keyboard and disable all the features that may interfere or may accidentally happen during use.

? u'd rather type on the blackberry keyboard and scroll on the trackball then use ur laptops...if i'm understanding right

this really makes no sense to me at all. and pressing 9+1+1 isn't going to accidentally call 911, you have to be trying to dial that number for it to happen especially if it's in emergency only mode

This thread really makes no sense whatsoever. Just turn off the radio, you're done. And I doubt you need an irreversible solution as it's not often you are typing away and accidentally click on the connection manager, scroll to the radio and click it on.

I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just so unlikely...

How do you use your BB keyboard/trackball on your laptop? Is that a specialized application? This could be cool if it worked over bluetooth...

    Still have my 86.

Anyway, will the phone boot if you delete the .cod file that controls the phone calls? I'm not gonna try this, just throwing it out there.

There's an app called bluCTRL that does this. Not very useful though, more a novelty. IMO opinion anyhow.
