BlackBerry 10 is likely dead.

I hate reading news like this. Best wishes for a safe landing to affected employees.

From the article if it's 150 BB10/device employees let go out of 1000 for this round. What were the other 850 doing?
I dont trust MobileSyrup at all. One of their writers is desperately trying to get nilay patel, dieter bohn, and some dude from tech crunch to pick up this story via Twitter...
Very disingenuous imho.
BlackBerry Z30 (10.3.2)
Reminds me of what happened to the PlayBook. Top figures left first, then staff in droves, then a sudden announcement that they were dropping support. This seems to be BlackBerry 'modus operandi' - they are not a transparent or trustworthy company when it comes to things like this.
Yeah the numbers don't make sense as written. There is another source that mentions the BlackBerry Fires 75 at Florida Office as Cost-Cutting Continues as part of this round. Is the Sunrise Florida location where they do final device packaging?
Edit: Answered my own question Sunrise location has a variety of mobile tech jobs going by the Glassdoor listing.
Probably android developers. Meaning that they're gonna drop android too. As well as more hardware designers, meaning the priv may be the last device after all. Huh.
Posted via -sigh- Priv. Guess we have to get used to Android guys....
LOL...wut

Seems there's been an update with BlackBerry's answer, find it below FWIW (define "small" ... but would be suprised if we are in the "one third" scale though) :
“As BlackBerry continues to execute its turnaround plan, we remain focused on driving efficiencies across our global workforce. This means finding new ways to enable us to capitalize on growth opportunities, while driving toward sustainable profitability across all parts of our business. As a result, a small number of employees have been impacted in Waterloo and Sunrise, FL. It also means that BlackBerry is actively recruiting in those areas of our business that will drive growth. For those employees that have recently left the company, we know that they have worked hard on behalf of our company and we are grateful for their commitment and contributions.”
@570NEWS: BREAKING: More layoffs at Blackberry. Gary Klassen, the creator of BBM, and one of the longest serving employees, has reportedly been cut.

5% OR 35%, with the stock dropping as much as it has this year, it's time to fire Attachment 390333 Chen.

On 570 news Kitchener it only mentioned 75 jobs in Florida however more job cuts are never good .When is Chen going to come clean with his future plans are we going to see more devices or Not BB10 or Android ?
I hear ya, but you've got to admit that Klassen being out does seem like a "wow" moment for those of us that have been paying attention to BlackBerry for a while.

I don't think giving Chen the boot is even going to help at this point. He's done far too much damage already.

On the bright side BlackBerry was at the career day at our University Wednesday.

At one point you have to put a tourniquet on to stop the blood letting lest the patient die.
Yeah, Heins, Lazaridis and Balsillie would have turned things around no sweat...
Lol but still we need a new head for the company, the one that currently is, is doing us on our backs.

As much as I hate BlackBerry 10 dying and the changes we see, there was no other way to save the company. BlackBerry's handset business was effectively killed years ago by incompetence and delay. We are only now seeing the to true damage of that incompetence in job losses and the move to Android.
When Thorsten launched BB10 with a thud I had a feeling this was all coming.

Lol. Ya for sure!
