I want to upgrade my 8700g. I am trying to decide between the Curve and the 8800. What are the primary differences? I tried to compare them on the T-Mobile website but the only difference listed was that the Curve had a camera. Please advise!

I have heard that the keyboard on the Curve is better because the keys are separated, where as on the 8800 they are crammed together. Plus the Curve is physically smaller, about the height and width of an iPhone, but thicker.

The camera is a pretty big deal also, especially with video capabilities of the 4.3 OS. And depending on where you get your curve you can have WiFi access. But the 8800 is usually a world phone, so you have options if you did travel out of the country. I have also heard that the trackballs might be different in feel, but I think this is just the perception of the user.

I would go with a Curve personally since it has so much in a convenient package. Not that i spend a lot of time video-ing and camera-ing things...but its nice to have the capabilities when something important happens.

Curve: slightly smaller, consumer device. Has a Camera. The 8320 has WiFi but NO GPS, the 8310 has GPS but NO WiFi.

8800: smidge larger business model. NO camera. Has GPS.

That's about it as far as I know.

As far as I know about the curve and 8800, that both are quad band phones, so you can use them all over the world! I personally like the size of the curve compared to the 8800. I looked at the 8810, 8100 and 8300. I went with the 8300 because I like the size and the keyboard!

I am with TMO and currently have the 8800. I was going with the Curve, but have no use for the camera, it would have been just another added accessory that is not used. I like the size of the 8800 and the keyboard is fine, which is why i got rid of the Pearl. As long as I kept the media player, I was fine. The biggest selling point of the 8800 for me was the GPS. It's just a matter of what features are going to be more beneficial to you.

I don't post much, just love browsing and learning tons on this site, but wanted to give you my take on both phones. I had the 8800 for about 6 months and about a month ago switched to the 8310. It is hard to say which is better as they both have strengths. Lots of folks have complained about the keyboard on the 8800, but, with a little time, I got very comfortable on it and quite fast. I believe the 8800 has a better construction, better overall feel. The battery life was just amazing on the 8800 as well. I have however come to like the 8310 just a bit more. I don't use the camera much, however the GPS works just a smidge better I think (the 8800 used to stall in Googlemaps), the OS is a bit newer on the 8310 (plus I wait anxiously for 4.3), I have grown very fond of the keyboard now and the size of the 8310 is great. I recently purchased the seidio 1300mah battery for it (ofcourse now there is a 1500, so I hope they give me a break when I buy it), and with the 1300 the battery life is quite comparable to what I got with the 8800. About the only real thing I miss on the 8800 was the trackball. It was smooth as silk and on the 8310, they went with some scratchy, grooved type feel to the roll which is something I just had to get used to.

I think you will be very pleased with either phone. Go to an AT&T store, check the look and feel out for both. Then just decide which phone's features you would get more use out of.

    Cheers

I work at AT&T. get the curve!! thats the one i carry. the 8800 does not have a camera but the curve does. they both have intergrated GPS built in (8310, 8800) the keyboard on the curve is alot easier for the guys with the seperated keys. i sell curves 8 to 1 over the 8800. the 8800 is big and bulky

As people before have said it all depends on what features mean the most to you. . .

I currently have the 8800 and I love it! I really like the keyboard on the 8800 and I don't really mis-type much on it. . .which is a good thing as I have big fingers! I do, however, have ocassion to miss having a camera (like today for instance so I'm using my MotoQ9h) and as such I am thinking about buying an 8310 too. Whatever model you choose I'm sure you'll be over the moon!

I've owned the first curve and now the 8830 because I wanted wifi. I do miss the camera(i have another phone for that) but IMO the keyboard is much better on the 8830. I can type much faster and even without looking because of the design.

I love my 8830 after taking back the Pearl 8130... the keys are perfect for my flintstone hands and fingers- it's small and still compact, not heavy. The only thing I wished the 8830 had was a camera and video- my speed is good with Sprint so I could care less about wi-fi but yet that options is ok.

Well it actually depends... on the reason you'll use it for. you really dont need 8800 series phones if you're just a typical user. i say 8320 just because it is cheaper with almost all the features a typical person need.

I love my 8800. The Curve honestly felt like a toy in my hands after my girlfriend got it. It was a bit too small for my liking. The 8800 keyboard is gonna look and feel weird especially after the 8700, but you'll get used to it in no time. I just got my 8800 last week and feel like I haven't missed a step. The GPS is lovely. I also like the sleeker look of the 8800 over the Curve. Where the Curve wins is in size, and if the camera is important to you. I'm not a picture taking person, so it doesn't make a difference to me. Everytime I've had a camera phone, I used it regularly for about 2-3 weeks, and then stopped. I've outgrown the whole "stand in front of a mirror and take a pic" phase, so yeah. Camera phones just waste battery imo.

I got the curve because it has everything except for FM Radio, GPS, and Video. I got 2 out of 3 which is not bad. GPS you can get it through google map and its pretty accurate by half a mile. Video which you can get through 4.3 OS that is supposed to come out already! FM Radio, maybe later by a BB update unless you have unlimited data plan and subscribe to FM radio on some sort of app or program.

Oh wait a min. Thats 3 out of 3. Well it rocks for me!

The curve 8320 with wifi is the way to go. The only thing is the feel of the trackball is scratchy and takes some getting used to. You may want to adjust the sensitivity settings as well.

I love my 8310. Form factor is awesome - I hated the 8800 at the store. It felt like a brick. I wanted a Pearl but didn't think I could deal with the SureType long term. Keyboard works as well as anything I've ever used (Treo, Q and now this). Road warrior for work, so onboard GPS is awesome. I'll take battery life over 3G & Wi-Fi personally. Screen isn't iPhone eye-popping gorgeous but I can change my own battery, use my corporate Exchange server and email a photograph! Overall, highly pleased with my Curve.
