What does it mean when an app is made by BlackBerry? Because we have facebook for instance but the vender is BlackBerry? Does that mean it's not official made by facebook?

If it says "Made by BlackBerry Ltd., BlackBerry Commerce or Research in Motion", then it means exactly that.

The Facebook app is developed by BlackBerry, not Facebook.

I'm assuming the answers to this question is yes but does Facebook have to sign off on the app built by BlackBerry?

As long as the FaceBook API is publicly available there is no reason to seek approval from Mark Zuckerberg, FaceBook High Priest.

They used Facebook's logo as the app icon and present it as if it's an official Facebook app. Are you saying BlackBerry violates it's own rules?

BlackBerry has developed it in cooperation with Facebook, but BlackBerry itself has been the decision maker. Facebook has been represented during the Jam Sessions leading up to BlackBerry 10 release.

FaceBook has rules by which it's logo can be used. Do you know for a fact BlackBerry has not been authorised by FaceBook to develop a FaceBook client for FaceBook?

I'm certain that BlackBerry would have checked that everything was done within FB's legal acceptable perimeters before launching the app on BB devices. Also, it should be obvious that FB's legal department is not sleeping at the switch.

Facebook showed no interest in supporting bb10. So I think it was more a case of BlackBerry asking if they would develop an app Facebook said mm not really interested at this point. And blackberry said you mind if we do it. And face book said what ever doesn't cost us anything.
I have no idea if this is true but I suspect there is some truth in it.

BlackBerry has changed its vendor name in BlackBerry World to BlackBerry Limited. No more Research in Motion.

Well in theory couldn't BlackBerry just make an instagram app?

    Not really.
They used open APIs to make the Facebook app.

The Instagram APIs that are open to the public are not enough to make a full featured app. The developers that are making instagram clones are using reverse-engineered private APIs that Instagram forbids others from using.
