Hi, since software is the new BlackBerry. Do you guys know anything about future BlackBerry Album, File Manager and Browser apps being developed for Android? Google photos is bad. There is no file manager out of the box and I really wonder how would a BlackBerry Browser be given the focus on security.

Do they have a cloud backup option on the dteks.
I mean contacts backup happens on google or blackberry.
Actually with all the negativity, i am losing faith in the Mercury, would go for the dteks.

They're not eager to reinvent the wheel outside of their strong suits of PIM and device security, which would explain why they're content using the stock equivalent for most of the OS instead of building their own. And since this is Android, you can easily find replacements for the default apps with just a little bit of effort; try Piktures, Solid Explorer and Habit Browser, respectively.

It use the same Google Drive backup as most all Android's. Actually very impressive if you ever need to wipe your phone or lose it. At least for those of us willing to risk everything in Google's hands....

Mercury... yeah we the CEO has chanced his stance to just thinking about, hours after telling investors they are getting all hardware cost off the books by the end of the fiscal year. I can see how you might lose faith in it's chances of being released.

But a more BB10 type experience with a BB File manager... and photo viewer. Parts of that have to be already built into HUB anyway, unless it's utilizing some basic Android features.

Browser... yeah that's a lot of work, both in development and up keep. Not a one and done type app.

At this point... we'll be lucky if BlackBerry's software still includes consumer smartphone in a few years.

No they do not, at least for me. Google photos app is a disaster, quickpic is nice but since not native it I see the rendering process of the photo I open. Lots of stuff like this. Sony's Album App and Music apps are pretty great with Spotify integration for example.

Plus a secured browser is something I would use with ad blockers and such.

We can talk on why TouchWiz exists if you like but it has nothing to do with separate apps. So BlackBerry tried to ape Grace UI because of Hub? Or including shortcuts?

I bet if they released a File manager on Android they would include the select option.

All other OEMs offer their gallery apps. Be it Sony HTC or LG, Huawei, ZTE or Xiaomi.

I am pretty skeptical of your depth into Google Play store but to ease the pain I can say I have been there and back. Thanks for nothing .

A noob question but will just releasing a gallery app (Pictures) a music player and a file manager be as much as effort as touch wiz?
I might be wrong but I feel BlackBerry can release these 3 apps.
The reason being I personally am paranoid sharing all my files, pictures etc with 3rd party apps. I'd rather trust BlackBerry with it. Just my opinion though

And don't expect a photo app or browser to come from BlackBerry, that would be an incredible waste of time. You might get a file manager though but only because people like you are stuck on the 'there is no file manager out of the box' misconception.

Photo app I agree. But I just hate the Google photos and the other gallery apps don't work without bugs. I am amazed how the apps get confused when I swipe left or right from the pkb. .

You know I get not wanting to share info with more "parties" than you have too.... and I agree, especially when some of the most touted Android apps, have had some questionable things come up later (like ES File Explore).


But at this point in the game, with BlackBerry moving out of hardware other than licensing it to so far one Indonesian company, for distribution only in that market. Not sure of the benefits of future Android App develpment, unless HUB+ is selling better than it seems to be.....

BlackBerry Travel = WorldMate.
BBM Meetings = Zoom Cloud Meetings
BlackBerry Assistant = Powered by Maluuba
BBM Music = 7Digital

On top of that, every system is pretty much built upon API's anyway, so the sharing of info is pretty high whether you realize it or not.

I disagree. Google Photos is brilliant and nothing else is needed. I also use QuickPic and love it. Why are people so quick to judge apps just because they are Android?
