Need urgent help as Im very confused!

Just got the new blackberry curve 8520 on contract with vodaphone in the UK.

However Ive just found out im moving to New York city for 12 months.

Ive heard how expensive a bb is when abroad so i have a questions.

Technically. Could I turn off all roaming on my bb, and simply only use my bb in a wifi area?

Therefore not occuring cost by connecting, when abroad, to my vodaphone supplier?

So would I occus any cost if when in america I just went to a starbucks, accessed the free wifi and used this for emails and bb messaging.

Please help, very confused and dont want a huge bill

Simple answer is no... you need data for email and bbm.

If you've had the phone for less than 14 days, then contact VodaFone and cancel the contract.

WiFi isn't going to be dependable unless you pretty much stay in one spot.

Your best bet is to unlock the phone, get a T-Mobile or ATT Sim with a BB plan. You can use this when your are in the States and when you go back to the UK you can use your Vodafone sim.
