Yes, he did. But he also said that those devices won't necessarily be phones, or even end-user equipment. He stated that BB will always need to have hardware as part of its mix, but that could be routers or something similar - such as the "IoT hubs" that some companies are putting out, but geared more towards business. It could also be something similar to Apple's "beacon" sales system.

In any event, he made it quite clear that, while phones are hardware, hardware does not necessarily mean phones (or tablets, or laptops).

With Google's Android for Work, Google is targeting for 1 billion BYOD Android devices in the corporate and government space. Android already has over 20% of the BYOD market.

These are numbers that are many, many orders of magnitude larger than BB10's entire user base.

The good news is that BlackBerry's BES EMM solution is a partner.

Android for Work is a containerised solution.

The security problems that some are facing are not the result of BYOD, but is due to the lack of an EMM solution for their BYOD.

Security policies tend to focus on preventing employees from accidentally leaking out information. Not every government employee carries a phone with the latest encryption module as if they were a field agent for the CIA.

With unregulated industries yes you are partly correct, not all organizations require the full security measure, however it is important for Banking,Oil and Gas for example outside of Governmental uses.
