Hi, more a question for those in the UK and London specifically.

My boss had an invite from from Blackberry UK's PR company inviting him to a preview event on 22 Jan 2013 in Westminster, London. As he's busy I bagged it myself and have registered to attend! Clearly the launch is a week after so not sure if we'll get to see the new devices etc but wondered if any of the Crackberry community were also going?

Will post up anything interesting if something new comes up and of course any pics. Will try my best to get some free stuff too of course!

Update for tonight's event in London - Thor's going to be dropping by! That man is certainly wracking up the air miles. So close to launch, not sure if we'll see the final, final version...seems odd to have it so close to launch if not going to see the whole package.

Full report will be on it's way. Needless to say the camera will be out if the X10 makes an appearance...unlikely but you never know.

    Oh, I don't. Trust me, I don't.

But I kinda want to be there. And, let's be fair, chances of an 18 year old being invited to an event like this are really small. Well, tough luck.

Report to come. I have a pretty old school blackberry but will do my utmost to get some video. Although I will feel a bit grubby, may have to use my wife's iPhone to do the video...please don't hate me.

Doubt you will be allowed to take pics or videos. I know there are a lot out there but some say they were "controlled leaks". At best, even if you are allowed they probably won't reveal anything we haven't seen already.

Still, whatever you get is good. It'll get us through these last few days. Thanks for whatever you can get!

Pictures would be nice, but I am most interested in your comments on what you see. Thanks for planning to share.

Looking forward to hear what your experience is like.... I don't count on pics though as I'm sure you will be signing an NDA before you even enter the room.

I'd certainly feel more comfortable just taking it all in rather than getting into any problems with use of camera etc! Will report what I see and if I can get something extra then I'll post it up.

Dynot - agree, can't see them showing too many surprises before the worldwide launch, wouldn't make sense. This is very much targetted at a non-tech audience who probably know very little of the new OS and so will be wowed by the things we've been hearing and seeing for the last few months. However I will try and provide a few interesting insights to get us over the line!

This will likely be displaying the same OS that is in external beta testing. They will keep the surprises until the 30th.

Hi all - didn't get to post an update yesterday but for those who are interested here's a brief 5-bullet run down of the event and my impressions:

    - Preview drinks reception. Good red. Thor and Vivek were there.
    - Event was clearly aimed at business and government. Although mingling Thor was being escorted around to various select people, including the UK Secretary of State for Business. UK government is a big market for RIM so makes sense.
    - Various hosts walking around with Dev Alpha B devices, as expected (although had hoped in vein to see something more!) they didn't reveal anything new, although this was my first hands-on experience. Impressions:
    # love the transition between the app grids - fading in and out effect is cool.
    # typing is epic, especially the auto correct - when you try and type as fast as you can without checking what you type and then you check the sentence and it's bang on! Deleting text by swiping back on the keyboard is a fantastic feature.
    # the ability to chose three languages to use on the keyboard at any one time is very neat. My wife who has an iPhone was born in Korea, grew up in Germany and now lives in the UK. She is sold.
    # cut and paste was pretty good with the selection bubble, although the guy doing the demo mentioned something about not being able to cut/copy and paste text from one message into another one. It was noisy and maybe didn't hear correctly....or he didn't know the product. Can someone confirm?
    # The calender works brilliantly especially the way it pulls together information from social networks and your communication history about other people who are attending the meeting/conference call.
    # Flow is the word - always thought it was a clever marketing word used to describe the process going from a to b but it looks/feels like everything flows - the transitions, the way the menus slide in and out, even the way the keyboard works. Truly dynamic and interesting to use. Blackberry people can now do and enjoy at the same time.
    - Thor and Vivek both gave speeches, again, nothing new although Thor did start by talking about the stock and seemed very fired up.

So, there you have it. Sorry for no great announcements, but as a BB fan I had a great time and am even more excited to get my hands on this thing!

You know I keep noticing they keep showing dev devices with somewhat limited software. Makes me really wonder what they are hiding/saving for next week.

I am getting more and more excited that they have some big surprises in store for us.

They may have been talking about being able to copy/paste things from the work partition to the personal partition. That can be set in Balance
