Last year, BlackBerry (nee RIM) had said that BlackBerry 10 would come to the playbook. Is there any info on when it will be coming to the Playbook? I would love to buy a BB10 phone but I am in a contract with an iPhone.

Your contract is for the plan, not the phone ;)
No word on when the playbook will get BB10 but it should be fairly soon that there's at least a beta.

I believe the reason he mentioned the contract is because he doesn't want to pay full price for the phone and would rather use the upgrade subsidy to get the phone. But you are actually in a contract with the company not for the plan or phone. I can and have changed my plan several times during the 3-year contract and just recently made changes to my plan that cut my monthly phone bill in half. When I upgraded to the Z10 on Tuesday, I did have to sign a new 3-year contract with Rogers but again, I am free to change my plan when my needs change lol
Take a look through the Playbook forums and you'll find the answer (or rather lack of an answer) that you're looking for.
Basically, nobody knows when BB10 is coming to the Playbook. And if they do know, they're not telling.
The most reliable source I've heard from thinks that it should be available at the very least in beta capacity by this summer. But plans change, so there's really no way to be sure.
I expect we will see it show up sometime in the summer after the first of the lower-priced models appears, BB will have covered a fair amount of bases in their range by that point so will have been able to free up some more devs to deal with the optimisations needed for the lower amount of memory in the playbook.
I think a kinda of watered down or a "tablet os" of bb10 will be coming. It doesn't need to do what the phone does so it should be nice and would be better than what it has now. Even though it's great now just a small few things bug me personally.
LOL Exactly. I have asked to change it but in the UK (T-Mobile/ EE) they want you to buy out of the contract, rather than, simply swapping devices.
Thanks for the 'update' I'll just wait. :)
You could sell your iPhone and buy a Z10 SIM-free. But obviously it's your choice.

Could someone give a source to the above mentioned watered down OS and beta versions?
