I would love if they adopted to flat UI design with long shadows (Google it, it's stunning).
Can you please go post this idea in the BlackBerry idea place? Icanmakeitbetter website.

That design looks a professional version of ios. How can we get Kevin to notice this idea? It's amazeballz

Sorry to rain on your parade but the design isn't called flat when there are shadows...

Sorry to rain on yours, but it is. The term flat refers to the colour and lack of shading. That's like having a shadow bounce off paper and saying it isn't flat.

In my understanding flat design has neither shading nor shadows.

I get you - but from my realistic, engineers point of view it doesn't make sense that a flat object creates a shadow.

I like 10.2 as is. Coming from 4 years of apple. Like it.

However I love bells and whistles this is why I will always love apple.

Having 2 phones is somewhat cool ehhh.

Let me understand you because as a designer and a normal, average human being it makes perfect sense...

Can you hold a flat object?

you mean something like a sheet of paper?!

  11. Apollo_IV's Avatar
    Exactly.

It's not so much about dimension but how an object interrupts light, thus creating a shadow. By this logic, a seemingly flat object such as a sheet of paper will create a shadow when held against or in the way of light.

Unless you want get really technical and talk about that imperceptible height and say it's not flat to begin with.

    Agree....

I don't understand why people won't just install leaks. I understand why most normal consumers wouldn't, but for people on crackberry...its nearly a dead simple procedure. download, plug your phone up, done lol

You obviously don't know most people's situation. I could have loaded a leak but I didn't because 1) I don't have a PC to use at all times 2) I'm not even able to back up my device with BlackBerry Link and 3) I don't want to risk losing anything I find important or useful because of leaks if you get my drift.

Anyways I'm calm now after waiting so long for the release. I put no blame on BlackBerry but on the carrier themselves. I guess that goes to say "better late than never."

I would prefer BlackBerry focus on features rather than screwing around with the user interface which is fine in its present incarnation. Some of you sound like little girls chasing the latest fashion.

Well seeing how the Foursquare app is flat I'm hoping BlackBerry does go flat but not add any childish gradients like in iOS7. I'd you swipe down you'll actually find the notification center is actually already flat. All it takes for BlackBerry to make the OS flat is to update the apps like they have done with Foursquare. Some apps are already flat to begin with in BB10. I'm actually going to wait for the dark theme within the Hub but we all know we'll end up waiting 3 months after the original release of 10.3 because of "carrier testing". Anyways I'm still enjoying 10.2.1. I feel BB10 is already complete but there could be more to be done to it.

I think BB10 is already a mostly flat design, so I don't think they need to become any more flat. I like the icons the way they are, but the rest of the UI should be less plain looking IMO. When the design becomes overly flat and simple it looks like it's design by a child.

I agree the current UI is a little plain looking and should be updated, but what I like about it is it looks professional and mature. They can update it and make it less plain looking, but IMO the UI design shouldn't be the priority right now. There are still bug fixes and features that are still needed. Once they work on those fixes and features, then they should think about changing the UI.

Without transparent icon background UI would be same as Android UI, with tons of icons with different sizes. Current BB10 UI is neat and aligned.
IMHO BlackBerry should be focused on BB10 features more than BB10 UI.

I like BlackBerry 10 the way it is. Do not make things flat! I won't upgrade my Foursquare because the new design sucks. Harder to read text.

None of these flat UI elements AFFORD clicking because they do not appear to be a button. They look like a static image. This goes against HCI principles of design!

So, I was kinda bored on the long way to work today and I had my laptop with me, so I played around a bit with the flat design with the long shadows.

This is what I came up with:

    BlackBerry 10.3 New OS Design?-test.jpg

I know it's not that great of an edit. LOL. but I don't know, seeing it actually made me excited to see if they really are going with a UI change.
Sorry if it doesn't look that good btw.

    Cheers

    Right?

I think the long shadows work perfectly for box icons, much like those in iOS.
