I get tired of hearing everyone say our beloved BlackBerry is going the way of the dinosaur so I thought I'd share a little story. Yesterday I ate lunch at a popular restaurant in downtown Tampa overlooking the water. Place was packed with a 40 min wait and probably 200+ people already seated. My buddy and I sat at the full bar outside and while talking we happened to notice something. He is a former BB user who switched to Android. I am a very loyal believer in RIM and have a 9650. As we looked around the bar at all the people eating lunch it really stood out how many BlackBerries were laying on the bar and tables. Literally almost everyone had one and if they didn't, it was an iPhone. I was actually kind of surprised myself. It was good to see and it made my day lol.

I'm a little wary of the reports of BB's decline also, the last family gathering of 23 folks revealed all phones present other than 2 were BB's, also I have 3 nieces, all have BB's, my son has over 30 people on BBM and five on text only. Seems to me that BB are Rim are still the most favored devices.

I think Google and Apple are paying news organizations to write this crap. I mean, look at what Facebook is doing to Google. This has to be common practice, it's just that Facebook got caught (their PR firm seems to not be too saavy and I was surprised they were one of the biggest in the country.)

I am quite sure that Google screws around with the Media.

Case in point- that leaked email that was just released about that company they screwed over.

Oh yes, and tons of people here in Vancouver use blackberries as well. Androids are somewhat uncommon.

I gave my spare 9700 to my niece two days ago when her iphone broke. Today she has 33 bbm friends. Blackberrys really are everywhere here.

I was just thinking about this as I crossed back over to blackberry land. I have been a blackberry user for my whole smart phone existence and for some reason every time a new iPhone comes out I want to try it, only to go back to blackberry. I don't see blackberry going anywhere anytime soon....

Just to add... I'm a middle school teacher, teaching phys. Ed, in my school I would say 90% of the students , more on the girls side, have black berry's. They all use it for bbm. Not iPhones or androids.

If rim is smart they should market to that crowd and do a media blitz of the curve touch when and if it comes out and produce it in colors.. I will tell you that would be a hot selling item .. This holiday season among teens !

Here is my latest experience, I've been at a training conference this week for university personnel including faculty and also some private business professionals and health care specialists. I saw one iphone, two droids and about 35 blackberries. The blackberries ranged from some curves to the torch to the storm 2 to my 9700 and playbook. I will say I usually see more iphones than this in meetings but it was still alarming how many folks were using blackberries. The playbook was a hot item of interest everywhere I went as well. I love this tablet. I seem to find more value in it daily.

I was thinking about this yesterday as I walked around downtown Oakland and saw the majority of cellphone users were on BBs and this wasn't the business types. Part of it is the confusion around marketshare. Since the market is growing, RIM can have a smaller share of it yet still be selling plenty of phones. If it was a finite market, it might speak more to a decline.

I work at a local bar in my town, and I notice while at work how many people have what phones. I can honestly say the Blackberry is by the the most popular phone seen at the bar runner up would be an iPhone and very few people have those.

Anecdotally I see many younger people with BlackBerry as well. Most are on the 9800, that touch screen is a hit with the kids. And the big deal is the bbm.

As usual, the reporting of BlackBerry's death is a bit premature.

I live in Suburban New Jersey and when I commute via the bus to New York City to work in the morning/evenings I see so many Blackberry handsets I almost think the iPhone is scarcer than non-redneck sightings of Bigfoot. To me, the Blackberry is alive and well at least in New York City.

Really? I've been seeing the opposite. Most people I see have iPhones or Android. The only people I know who still have BlackBerries use them because they are stuck on a contract.

I doubt it. The only ones sweatin' contracts are probably the same ones who are always crying about the cost of the BlackBerry data plan.

I don't know I am a big BB advocate, however around here, I see plenty of Android devices from Droids, Captivate's/Galaxy S's...to cheaper Androids.

I don't see many people as far as consumers carrying around BB's. Here at work they supply them, but for business use only. Most of those people carry a spare and is mostly iPhone's a couple Androids.

Me, I am sticking it out on BB. Androids did nothing for me in the past. Don't care for the software....
