Anyone else in the UK noticing any delays receiving e-mails through BIS? (Vodafone / Gmail / BlackBerry 8800)?

Seems to be VERY slow (hours) since New Year - and then I get a dozen at once, like it is only polling the Gmail server every few hours.

"Reconcile Now" does not make a difference - nor does a battery pull (tried that 6 times!).

I also noticed that Gmail seems to have had more "unable to connect to server" errors on my desktop client since New Year - so I guess it could be that the problem is with the Gmail servers, and BIS is not able to "log on" as often as it should.

Or do Vodafone reduce your polling time if you have been receiving a lot of e-mails?

Anyone experiencing anything similar, or is it just me?

    Thanks!

I too have noticed that I get a few emails in one go too. As long as I'm getting them, then I'm ok.

For me, the only email that has changed as of late is Gmail. I believe that has to do with them, and not BB. They say their support of Active Sync will end as of Jan 30 but I think they've started early. When an email came through Gmail, I used to get them within less than a second on both my PB and phone. Now, there seems to be a delay between the two which can be up to minutes. I haven't tried add other accounts to my PB as I find I don't need to as my phone is always with me and if I'm with my PB, it's bridged so can't say for sure if it's strictly a Gmail thing but I find it odd that after their announcement, things started to happen this way.

Aha! Thank you! I didn't know that - just (ironically) used Google to find it:
Google makes Gmail sync harder on rival platforms by dropping Exchange ActiveSync for consumers | The Verge
Hmmm... so I suppose that means that any non-android device won't get instantly pushed Gmail anymore?
    Not great :-(

Nope, hence the massive number of new activations on outlook.com for new email address'.

I've an outlook email but I am very much tied to my gmail account (lots of folders and it's address is scattered far and wide) so what I've done as a solution is to forward all email from gmail to outlook.com while keeping a copy in my gmail inbox. I the get near instant notification of email coming to my gmail account thorugh the arrival of the forwarded email to the outlook.com account.

I can reply to people quickly on my blackberry who have sent me email that has arrived from my gmail account to my outlook.com account, by forwarding the email and then changing the "send using" address and adding the contact since I cannot change the "send using" address when I'm replying to an email from gmail in my outlook.com folder.

God a mouthful I know but I hope it makes sense. Bottom line is I still get the instant email arriving at my BlackBerry from my gmail account.

LOL! It is a mouthful - but it makes sense - thank you!

I just wonder what the long term holds with this. Obviously, Gmail is free and it isn't for me to tell Google how to run their business - but this is going to be a major inconvenience to anyone wanting a new non Google phone I think.

We have come to depend on instant e-mail now, unlike the old dial up days when we checked e-mail a couple of times a day. Yes, we don't pay for it, and yes, we have no right to it - but not having it in this age makes it not worth having and time to look for a better solution. I wouldn't even mind paying an annual fee to Google to have this - but I don't really want to have to have a Google apps account and a Google hosted domain.

Anyway - I'm straying off topic!

    Thanks again,

    Harry

I thought this only affected people whose Gmail went through Outlook? Mine is slowtoo, but it's just a straightforward Gmail account set up on my BIS BB. I thought that was meant to just push as normal, no?

Mine is a straightforward Gmail account which BIS sends to my BB too - but the speed at which e-mails are sent to my BB seems to have radically slowed down since New Years.

Just set up an outlook.com account and e-mails are pushed to my BB instantly while they are not using Gmail.

However, although outlook.com e-mail looks good - there is no 2 factor authentication option available for it :-( In fact, security options are barely there at all.

Microsoft explains why Outlook.com doesn't have two-factor authentication

No, I agree. Mine is absolutely crawling too, I just wasn't sure that the Activesync thing was the reason.

It seems to be back being fast today for me anyway. Outlook.com still gets them first but it's only a few seconds later that gmail gets them. Maybe it was a blip over the weekend??

Scrap that. Back to slow again

Folks I have been having these problems with a gmail account using the Enhanced plug ins for 3 days, but not with another using the old Gmail app, so yesterday in complete frustration with Google active sync support withdrawal, I set up a new outlook.com addy. All was good yesterday the gmail was not receiving messages but the new Outlook one was instantaneous. Joy overflowing, then today the old gmail one goes back to normal, so it wasn't cos of them withdrawing support after all. And then blow me down if the new outlook one hasn't gone the same way tonight. No received messages for 3 hours even though I can see them on a PC, done Service books and battery pulls. Nothing. Yet both the gmail ,and gmail app are instantaneous again.
I now firmly believe Blackberry are having network problems again, and also keeping schtum about it again like last year. Waiting for the network to collapse and more free/worthless apps as an apology. Don't want to go to crApple or Andread but starting to think the unthinkable...

Thank God! Thought it was my BB only (Virgin Mobile / Gmail / Bold 9900).

So has anyone figured out if it is BIS or Gmail?

All I can say is to repeat that my iPhone owning friend had the same issues. But it seems back to normal now.

News reports this morning that BB customers on Vodaphone in the UK are having issues and they are working on it....

LONDON, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Mobile operator Vodafone said on Friday some of its customers were not receiving emails via their Blackberry phones, and that it was working with the handset maker Research in Motion to rectify the problem.

A spokeswoman for Blackberry said it was looking into the issue but did not have any details. Commentators on Twitter also reported problems with the handset.

"We are aware that some BlackBerry customers are experiencing issues," Vodafone said.

"Vodafone is working closely with Research in Motion (RIM) to restore full service as soon as possible. As soon as we have further information we will provide additional updates," the British operator said.
