Exactly. It's great for a mobile browser, but not even in the same class as desktop browsers. I mean, raw CPU power alone would put the desktops at a huge advantage.
Except the desktop is not a Real-time OS. Everybody seems to forget that the core of Blackbery 10 is QNX, which is designed to GUARANTEE time sensitive requests (such as ones regarding the interface, rendering, networking)

I'm curious about whether the people that were arguing about the "5.0" being BBOS5 discovered that it's actually the version of BlackBerry10's browser, check whatsmyuseragent.com with your BlackBerry10 devices.

Surely you don't think that 5.0 is the browser version? Are you talking about the first part of the user agent string that state's that the browser is a Mozilla 5.0 compatible browser? Because that would be an extremely incorrect way to read a browser user agent string. And that's the only place 5.0 appears.

Here, this explains what the user agent string actually means: UserAgentString.com - BlackBerry

If 5.0 is the browser version number, then they'd have a hard time differentiating since literally every Blackberry browser in the past 3+ years has had their string start with the same entry. Not to mention virtually every Android browser in existance.

Fair point, my mistake, I still have to assume that's what they took as version either that or somehow BBOS5's browser is better than not only BB10's but BB6's and BB7's.

    I don't think I agree on that.
Not all the sites detect BlackBerry 10 browser as mobile device. There tons of sites that I visit and mostly the desktop version of the site loads up.

Which sites, most load mobile versions for me unless I go into developer tools and enable "desktop mode". Enabling desktop mode on t-mobileusa uses up your hot spot allocation for for some strange reason.

Some load mobile versions, some load full versions. Unless you enable desktop mode on bb10, it's the luck of the draw.

This has been my experience also. As a mobile browsing goes, I think they did a good job. But I'm not buying the "beats desktop browsers" thing either - haven't seen a mobile browser yet that does that.

Wow - would they ever have made a mistake if they came to that conclusion! I thought I blocked BlackBerry 5's non-webkit browser from my mind as a horrible memory. Even BlackBerry 6 and 7 were big steps up from that! (shudder)

The HTML5 benchmark is not a benchmark? Interesting. HTML 5 compliance has NOTHING to do with browser speed btw.

More likely the site you are visiting automatically provides a non-flash alternative since iOS users are a big part of their audience.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

Above is adobes test page for flash, you'll notice the animation does not work on an iOS device.

iOS does not, and will likely never support flash natively. Adobe themselves have even abandoned mobile flash.
