So I know verizon hasn't unlocked the gps for google maps...but if you installed an OS with the vendor.xml deleted, would this allow you to run google maps with gps on a vzw curve?

You've always had the ability to run Google Maps on any Verizon BlackBerry. It just can't use the internal GPS. Deleting the vendor.xml file has nothing to do with the GPS.
So there's obviously something else in the OS that is locking the gps right?

The OS is part of the solution, because you have to be running OS4.5 to use the internal GPS with BBMaps, but it is not the whole solution. The details are here, in this thread: http://forums.crackberry.com/f61/gps...0-update-1279/
I apologize for giving you a short answer to your first post. There has been a LOT of work done on this, and it's far more complicated than you realize. Once you've read that thread, you'll understand.
