Very odd indeed. I don't believe for a minute there is best smartphone out there. It all depends on needs. For physical keyboard, of course the passport. For an eco system, I prefer the iPhone. For messaging speed, I prefer the Z30 over all others. Every one has different needs.
I think the list is based on the ratings they gave each device when it was released. They gave the Z10 four stars in February 2013. They gave the Z30 three-and-a-half stars in December 2013. It doesn't necessarily follow that the Z10 is a better phone than the Z30 if they are evaluated at the same time.

Well that's the point isn't it? If I read a review, I want a review. I could look up sales figures on my own if that was all the criteria I wanted to base my phone choice on.
In fact, popularity, particularly long-term popularity, tends to equal diminished quality as businesses cut corners to lower costs as they coast off their past success and brand building.

I fail to see any universe in which the Z10 is superior to the Z30.
I agree, the Z30 is a MUCH better device. But all things being equal, there would still be some that would prefer the smaller size and brighter LCD screen of the Z10. There are "some" that don't like the new larger size of the iPhone...
Different reviewers per device, and DT was a really nice site back in 2013 l, but something happened and this site became yet another wanna be verge apple fan service site.
