I carry my Z10 everywhere, but I would turn it off and leave it in my bag while at the pool with my family.

I use it for email, calls, calendar, contacts, notes and tasks, all synched to multiple businesses that I run or support. That's the what.

The why is easier. It's simply the best tool for the job that I've found. I own iOS and Android devices, which I use for testing and training, but none of them meet my requirements as well as BB10 on my Z10, even after Lost 7 years.

I carry my Passport as a daily. It does it all, including Social media. Some sites are via the Web, but that's OK in my book. Good luck,

PS - it lasts all day too.

Fully agree, we need to prioritize the important times of our lives. I see so many people missing key and special, and important normal family time whilen on their devices! My hats off to you!

    You have a lucky family!

This 9930 rarely leaves my hand. Frequently enough even while sleeping. Lol. Whether getting coffee down the hall or globe trotting, it keeps me in essential contact. Very much as @bb10adopter111 describes above for his Z.

I keep one of my giants handy for things like heavy surfing, banking, etc but frequently feel no need to cary ANYthing other than this COMPACT 9930 when all I want is critical contact availability. Especially over an "off" weekend.

For longer weekends, I'll swap its swappable battery for a 5000mAh monster that'll ensure solid 3 day endurance. Spare batt also affords confidence that critical communications WILL happen.

What’s your plan when BIS goes to permanent sleep and BB10 on the backend starts breaking down. Let’s say this starts occurring throughout 2020 mid year.

2G is not going away before 2025 at earliest where I live and no message about bis ending with two remaining networks,If and when this happens who knows until it does, I am testing for work use a couple of Android phones which fortunately are on loan just in case.

I think it's just best practice that everyone, no matter which mobile platform they use, is prepared for their phone to be permanently damaged or lost at any time. I use something I call the pissed-off user test: if I get angry and throw my device out of a fast-moving car I should be comfortable that I won't lose any significant information. Being on BB10 is no different than being on Windows or Android in those terms.

If BB10 were to break permanently in the next 10 seconds, the only information I'd lose is the draft of this post.

Interesting about BIS as it’s EOL 04/2018 but the backend services will support it sounds like until it won’t. BB just states after 12/2019 but nothing specific. AT&T here sounds like same until breakage or shutdown. Where are you located that 2G will continue so long?

I am in U.K. also a few counties in Europe are keeping 2G , a lot of M2M equipment Is still in use, where I work electricity meter head’s use 2G SIM cards to send data and in many country areas 3/4G is unreliable or not available, and about 70% of calls use 2G system at some point from sender to recipient, as for 5G and it’s short range it will be like 3/4G was a long time coming to most of but not all of the country.

Very true. I was in Europe two years ago, Portugal to be specific and when I throw in my VodaFone Sim, 3G was the best I got. So yes, many markets outside of NA will be supporting 2G and 3G for the foreseeable future! Good on you,

I have the Passport OG. I have had to rebuild and repair it. It is now a fully refurbished unit!

Parts are very inexpensive for our Passports, worth checking into.

I do have a K2 for my financial apps.

Here is the Russian company that many here have used. I ordered from them and it went very smoothly, slow shipping but smooth. Prices are very reasonable. Your sim slot connector is $9! Good luck! If you do decide to repair, let us know how it goes.

Here is the part you need. Looking at the part, it might need soldering, above my skill set, but a shop will do it for about $40. The best BlackBerry to carry on?-screenshot_20191201-125255.jpeg

Replacing parts like this (and usb port) require the use of a hot air soldering tool. Don't even try with a regular soldering pencil!

I've long drawn the line at the USB port! When that goes (and it will) I'll buy a replacement phone.
