What is the best blackberry available, as far as RAM, ROM, Processor? Also, are there any better blackberrys coming out in say, the next year?

Oh, also, how do they compare to the iPhone 3G/3GS?

No blackberry compares to an iPhone. I am sure if you do some research, there are many threads already made about this. All you are doing is creating a flame thread.

I would say the new Bold 9650 with it's 2 year old cpu and 512mb internal is the best model.

Stay away from BBs. RIM offers nothing to look forward to.

you never specified what your needs are.
if you want a full keyboard then the best one would be either the Bold 9700 9650, or a Curve depending on your needs.
if you want a keyboard but can still fall back on a touch screen, then the upcoming 9800 (thing Palm pre but better)
if you want a full touch screen, then ideally wait for the S3 which my guess would be the peak of RIM inventing itself.

That wasn't my intent, I was truly curious because I have an iPhone and I had a blackberry (for a few days). I liked the blackberry a lot but didn't have it for long enough to tell if it was worth keeping forever, or if the app world and the apps and browsing was sub-standard.

Blackberries appeal to me because I like the full keyboard and was hoping that OS 6 will be a lot better than iPhone OS.

Best right now would be the blackberry 9650 as a poster said. Has 512 mb ram to run the new Blackberry OS 6 and has all the features a Bold has. I would wait till tom. when RIM announces the Blackberry 9800 if it will be available to other carriers. 9800 looks like an awesome device.

The Bold 9650 is the best right now. 512 MB of memory, great keyboard, trackpad, wifi and it will run BB 6.

Well, I know the OP is not in Canada, but being with Rogers here in Canada, the 9650 is not available (no CDMA). Also, it's still not a fact by any means that any existing BB will run OS6 currently. No one should state it as fact.

So depending on what network you are with and what you need, the 9650 may not be an option and the 9700 is the best of the best most readily available for most currently. There is still no fact whatsoever that the 9700 won't be able to run OS6.

Well, I'll state it again...The carrier I'm with and the one I have a three year plan with does not have the 9650, only the 9700. Some don't have a choice.

Do you think we'll see an upgrade to the 9800 by this time next year? I don't see how blackberry is competing with android, more and more devices are being announced almost everyday, but I don't think they're really anything to jump up and down about (except the droid X)

Oh, just do what I do when somebody is asking me the differences between devices:
I tell them the precise details as to the differences between android devices, such as "this android phone has a faster processor but this one here is the same but more powerful, and this one here is a dual-core, and this one here has two GB of RAM..."
and "thi blackberry is a touch screen, this one has a full keyboard, this one also has a full keyboard, but is better and more expensive, this one is tiny, this one flips, ad this one is touch with a full keyboard that slides out."

seriously. if someone that knows next to nothing about phones goes for an ANdroid they will be very confused with all of the near-identical models, but if he or she is looking for a blackberry the decision is cut down to if a full keyboard is needed or not.
